Folks, I love to review my two epic TV fights from the golden age of TV boxing that featured Sonny Liston and Cleveland Williams going to war in the late 50s / early 60s............ Good stuff......... Amazing at how well in tune both guys were and in such great shape, in which wicked power and some decent skills were displayed...... It is obvious both Liston and Williams were naturally trained.... Them muscles that both men had were for real.... YES! A true throw-back to the good ol' days / nights....... I miss them times......... Anyone seen this action before or have some of this stuff as well??? I love it.... I feed off it......... Liston was a beast........... BUT! I always credit Cleveland Williams as well.......... Williams was an animal who just fell short in the "SKILLS" dept..... Had "Liston or Ali" not been around, Cleveland Williams probably would've been a champion--for a brief while anyway..... Peace... MR.BILLbbb:hat:happy:good
I have NEVER bad-mouthed Cleve Williams as a fighter........... He was the goods..... BUT!! He was never great........... Still, worthy of credit.......... :good:yep:deal MR.BILL
I would like to see Williams take on today's heavies he had power, decent handspeed, and a physique to match ,not a great ,but not a guy to take lightly. Liston looks the goods in their two fights.
I thought Cleve Williams of 1960 had a ripped to the max build who was lean and powerful.... Too bad Williams lacked finess and skills, because his power was there....... At 212 pounds, Williams was all muscle........ MR.BILL:deal
Cleve's management was B-plus in my opinion. He should have been developed more.....and maybe he would have, if he hadn't been shot.
I hear that, but goddamn, Williams was picked-off by the Pigs in 1964 when he was age 31....... Cleve Williams was in his heyday when he took that slug from a .357 magnum.... His skills should've been fully developed by 1964...... Either Williams lacked boxing talent or his trainer was lousy..... Who knows? MR.BILL
I've read that Cleveland Williams had finally gotten some legit financial backing before being shot. A third fight against Ernie Terrell for the WBA title was supposed to happen. I think Williams could have won that fight, most thought he won the second fight where he lost a close split decision. Williams had some real talent in my opinion. He was a pretty good counter puncher with the left hook. Unfortunately most have only seen losing efforts from him.
It is a shame that Ali made Williams look like a bum in '66 out in Houston....... Ali was on fire that night........ NOTE! Age 33 and coming back from being shot by the Pigs with a .357 mag. was amazing and respectable as it was / is....... Williams lost + or - 60 pounds of body mass during his recovery period in the hospital in circa--'65.......... Williams was reported to have dropped to under 150 pounds at one point during his recovery.... But he was back to 212for his challenge to Ali.... Incredible....... MR.BILL
