Yeah but if you are just that and not more than that you are then just contender caliber.

 

Buddy… you become a champion by beating the champion(he won that crown) and defending it by beating challengers. He did his job perfectly…

 

I’m one of the biggest Patterson fans here and I agree with this post.

But who he beat that was champion except Archie Moore?

He did not beat Liston, Foreman, Frazier or Ali he could not even beat Quarry.

 

Sonny was 23 years old when they fought the first time.

He was 30 by the time of the rematch 10 months later.

When he fought Ali seven months after that, he was 46.

By the time of the second Ali fight a full 15 months after their first meeting, Sonny was 68 1/2.

 

You forgot Leotis Martin. Sonny was 90 in that fight.

 

Recent evident by Paul Gallender suggests he was actually 126 years old.
