To quote from Coming to America:

I don’t know how old he was, but he got his ass kicked.

Liston's last 8 fights before one skinny boi beat him were really good.

    Patterson
    Foley
    Williams
And Machen was pretty good too.

I'm a Liston fanboy so take what I say with a grain of salt

How many times has reigning a lineal heavyweight champion been stopped in the first round?

Literally just twice in the sports history, and one of those time's was by Liston.

The other time was obviously Tyson Spinks, and Dempsey Willard was a very near miss.

Was Liston's win better than Tyson's?

    Unequivocally in my opinion.

This was not a really good win, it was a staggering win.

I was about to post "who the hell thinks it wasn't a good win", but then I read that Patterson was a journeyman, LOL.

Again which good heavyweight or heavyweight champion did Patterson beat?
He beat many good contenders but as soon as guy with a good punch came he failed and he then failed again against Liston and never become a champion again.

Patterson would be great LHW or cruiser but he never beat anyone very good or any hw champion that was good.

He was just protected fighter and the first time he was tested against a guy with a big punch he failed, he then failed again against Liston and then never became a champion again...not even close to be a champion.

Whether he was an ATG or not, can be debated. I’d personally lean towards yes. First heavyweight to regain the title after losing it. A feat that eluded the likes of Dempsey and Louis.

Beat more ranked contenders than the vast majority of champions including Foreman, who’s my number 3.

Also, the Liston losses would’ve been the end of the road for 99% of people. Patterson went on to be a force in the division, and imho was blatantly robbed against Ellis which robbed him of the distinction of being the first person to regain the title for a third time.

To be fair, it eluded them because they weren't beaten in their prime years, unlike Floyd who was still in peak condition in the Johansen rematches. He shouldn't have even lost that first fight. He did deserve the win over Ellis however, but again, he'd only be the new champion because the actual champion was banned from the sport.
