Wow Roach actually teaching the shoulder roll. I know it's just mittwork but I'm actually impressed by Jr's speed and pop.
serious? i thought he looked quite sloppy if anything mind you he's probably just after a 2 hour workout
Since someone brought up the shoulder roll i thought id throw out a video (a lot of people have probably seen it already) of Roach teaching a shoulder roll counter. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-DggRQngGM[/ame]
I felt JCCJr showed great speed pop and a good sense of distance to go with it. it is probly just after a decent work out and he isnt showing the same strictness for technique as he would at the beginning but you can clearly see he has good speed and pop. or were you just talking about the shoulder roll being sloppy?
all good boxer trainers know the shoulder roll- its not like its a magical art that only the mayweathers know. its just rarely applied because the risk / reward is nt as high for less talented fighters- its not for flinchy guys- as you re staring down the barrel of the gun, so to speak.
haha was just about to type a similar thing, roach is a world class trainer why wouldnt he teach this method if it suited a fighter or a purpose. Just because you dont see it on 24/7 with pac ?
That isn't a shoulder roll (bka Philly Shell). That is a pretty standard counter shot in the bag of Freddy Roach. You can see it in a few of his training tapes. He doesn't really teach you to stay in the stance, but if you are moving and rolling out left under slight pressure from a shorter fighter looking to land unanswered body shots while you (taller) are getting space? It is a nice little body gotcha.
Just because you don't have any bolts that size on this project doesn't mean I ain't got the wrench in my tool box.
For someone with such average natural traits, he seems to work pretty well with what he has. Chavez Jr isn't bad at all.
Here's the shoulder roll move he was having him do explained. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWbYhbDwwCM[/ame] Roll your opponents straight right hand, throw a right uppercut to the stomach.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_wI_wIDzU0[/ame] This knockout seems like a good example of this counter.
At 1:00, Marcos Antonio Barrera used that technique a lot. I also thought Chavez Jr. looked pretty good. His punches were fast, snappy and had power.
