Hey just turned 26 and the gf is bugging me to settle down and have a kid, so my goal is to have my first ametuer fight this summer before I settle down. Used to be a 225 pound bodybuilder. I took up boxing and have been on and off for two years. Right now I am 6ft 170ibs. I would like to compete at 165. I have sparred tons these last few years. I have a good chin, very fast hands, slower feet so I am more of a puncher style. I have long arms so I am really good at landing my long straight punches. My weakness's are that I am not good at boxing on the inside, and my cardio is horrible. I would of fought a long time ago if it wasnt for my cardio. Thought this site would give me extra motivation. Any tips on where to go from here would be great.
Ignoring all the problems I see with the first half of the first sentence. So your three problems are cardio, foot speed and fighting inside. Combing these goals should be easy enough, dedicated skipping drills, agility drills and footwork drills for your feet, go to work on the body shield and pads with your coach to help you improve inside, and then apply that in sparring. Any of those will help your cardio improve if you work at it, but cardio is easily the most important thing that you're missing. If you're not doing it already, get out the door and hit the bricks and do some sprints. Hills sprints, short sprints (50-100m), long sprints (400m), interval runs (2-3 minute rounds as hard as you can manage). Distance is pretty pointless for the ams, but there's nothing wrong with doing a few miles on the weekend.

Try to get to a 6 minute mile. Once you have achieved this (or close to it), add in sprints. Keep your total work around the 6 min mark (equal to 3/ 2minute rounds which your first fight will be). If your mile time is in the 7:30-8 min mark, I would focus on this first. If you can already run a 6 min mile, then you need to work on relaxing/reducing tension and anxierty while sparring.
