Barbados Joe Walcott was from Guyana, not Barbados, and resided in Boston. His name was Joe Walcott. Jersey Joe Walcott was from New Jersey and lived there. His name was not Joe Walcott. Alabama Kid wasn’t from Alabama, never fought there and as near as I can tell never lived there nor had any connection whatsoever. (For the record, his name wasn’t Joe Walcott either.)
Bob Fitz had an altercation with a coachman who Bob believed had overcharged for a ride the night before - causing Bob to confront the man the next day. Now this coachman was apparently old and small and perhaps had a gammy leg also IIRC. All in all, not a physically imposing man in any way. Apparently, without really leaving his coach seat, during the verbal argument, the coachman bopped Ruby Robert and actually dropped him. I read his years ago and of course can’t vouch for its accuracy. I might try to find the related newspaper article and link it if I’m successful. The write up I read might’ve been in one of the old Police Gazettes.
Holmes tried to market his “Larry’s Lean, Mean, Peanut Shelling Machine” but it never took off. Okay, that’s not true at all. Sometimes I’m prone to compulsive lying but I always rectify myself immediately.
@janitor who was that fly/bantam from the old days who got slammed through the side walk by a blacksmith after punching said smith?
Actor Tony Danza was middleweight back in the 70's. Ended up with I believe a 9-3 record with all his wins by knockout.
I still love Larry Holmes's quote about the George Foreman Grill. It's one of the great fighter's quotes of all time. Who among you knows it?
Mate, I’ve checked your threads, they’re fine. Some just take off through happenstance and some don’t - notwithstanding their superior quality. Bomb? I’ve had more than my fair share. Lol.
