This would be a WAR. Morales had better watch the power of Lopez but same old story with morales, if he boxes more than he fights then he wins a decision, if not then he will leave it too close & the judges will flip the coin. Erik is a much better boxer than Lopez but he loves a scrap as does Danny. Great fight.
Nonsense, he'd be a live underdog against any Featherweight due to his power, less so the pure boxing technicians, which Morales wasn't. Morales's defense was just as questionable as Lopez's defense. Lopez was a very sound technician, just very basic in his arsenal. But what he knew, he knew very well, and what he knew best was landing the big shot. Someone with lacking defensive reflexes that often went to war like Morales would find himself open far too often against those huge power punches of Lopez. Morales was the better overall offensive technician when he wanted to be, but his own lacking defense doesn't bode well against a puncher like Lopez.
Morales wins if he keeps his composure and boxes but if he comes in with a brawler's mentality, he can get KTFO.
I would say Erik Morales..because he is faster and quicker relfexes. However, I remember Little Red fighting Mike Ayala who was quicker and schooled him for 15 rounds....until the final seconds of the fight of which Little Red caught him and put him down. Morales would not run....I think his pride would get in the way and he would want to trade with Little Red which would be his own undoing. Little Red Lopez wins this fight.
Good call. Lopez/Ayala was 1979 Ring Magazine fight of the year, and a strong contender for fight of the decade. I wouldn't say Ayala "schooled" Danny. That blood that turned Danny's white trunks red was Mike's not his. Danny went 27 rounds with Sal Sanchez who I think was better at 126 than Morales. Plus, Little Red only had to do it right one time. I think Morales would have to be VERY careful.
