"Boxing History" has now been good enough to tweet the Amazon book entry to his 5,000 followers. Hope many learn about this titan of boxing!

Finished it tonight. While there were some editing mistakes they did not distract from the narrative, and we're a ways away from some of the errors that liter other boxing books. I can't even begin to fathom the effort it takes to go fight by fight for guy that had 300 bouts. I found the outside the ring shenanigans every bit as interesting as what happened in the ring; the idea that the alphabet boys wrote the last word corruption is refuted by some of the stuff champions in that era did.

My biggest take away is that Greb had a clear decline after the eye injury and the Gibbons and Tunney fight that is not clear at a glance at boxrec. While he was still winning with maddening consistency the margin of victory was starting to thin. You could say he was coming back down to earth. And while it seems obvious that a one eyed aging Greb would not be as good as a younger two eyed version, it is never so clear than in descriptions of the fights.

Some bios read like a novel. This didn't and I'm glad you didn't give into the temptation to write the Harry Greb Story. You wrote the Harry Greb Life and I found that far more informative and fascinating than a psychological interpretation or an attempt to sensationalize.

Im glad you feel that way. It sounds like I accomplished what I set out to. Yes, there was a distinct decline after he lost the sight in his eye. You also see more frequent concerns from his fans and supporters that he is slowing down and just isn't as speedy anymore. Probably a by product to some degree of the loss of vision but still notable and increasingly more frequent.

OK, cleared up my reading schedule and now focussing solely on this book. A good year for books of all flavors, I must say.
