    Didn't get paid for his first 18 fights (he basically had to go to work for three years for no wages), had to leave his homeland and family behind and travel 10,000 odd miles over to the US to try and forge a career for himself and then adapt to a completely different culture and learn a new language. And then when he got there he was turned down by every single promoter he went to (all the major ones), which must have been seriously disheartening, hence him having to fight for free for 18 fights. And then he had to overcome the trauma of killing one of his opponents in the ring, well Simakov (RIP) lost consciousness in the ring and never regained it, losing the battle three days later.

    Kovalev was also unfortunate he had to fight Campillo (who was the real WBA and IBF champ when Sergey fought him) for no belts too. Ironically, he's now having to contest both of those belts on Saturday night against B-Hop who only won them thanks to Campillo getting robbed x 2. Not to mention all the adversity Kovalev had to contend with growing up poor in Russia too.

    Then he had to go all the way over to Wales, into hostile territory in the Lion's den, to tackle Cleverly to win his title.

    Then he went over to Adonis' backyard as part of that double header that was supposedly meant to set up a clash between the pair of them only for Adonis to then run across the street.

    The matchmaker for Main Events elaborates a little about some of the bad luck and adversity Sergey has had to contend with in this interview.

    Kovalev is going to destroy him. Pavlik would have done it too if he wasn't sick with binge drinking flu. I hope kovalev doesn't rush it. He needs to beat him down but not scare him into quitting. Don't want him to lose without blackout.

    Hopkins finished up with something to the tune of "send the atheist back to the hole they belong". WTF was that all about? Also went all nuts saying Allah made his enemies drop dead, and that he is protected in the ring by a higher power.

    Ok Bernard whatever you say dude, but thanks for that little outburst now I won't feel bad watching you get destroyed by Kovalev.

    If Kovalev was saying half the **** Hopkins does he would be fired by HBO and Main Event.

    What if Hopkins is a multi millionaire? He's earned every penny he's got. Maybe Kovalev will wnd up a millionaire too. But he'll have to live the right life. Bernard ,away from the spotlight is a happy contented family man !!!!!! War Hopkins!!!!!!!

    why is hopkins taking this fight what a crazy guy dosent fight anyone dangerous in years and years then all of a sudden goes for the most dangerous in the division crazy

    No "White Boy" has ever legitimately beaten him because that Cowardly Welsh Wimp CalSlappy sure didn't. Bet Slappy's blood is boiling to see Bernard still fighting & achieving ATG status. Slappy is Sniffin , Drinkin, Chasing ho's etc He was too chicken to rematch Nard
