I like to anticipate their right cross and slip it and throw a liver shot afterward

You can do it off the jab as long as you move your head off centre after it. It's sometimes difficult to maintain balance if you throw your head off centre 'overzealously', but when it works it's a beast.

You'll have to land a few 1-2's for this combo to be effective. Once his guard is up...BAM!

You could also lead with a 2, feint the 3 then follow up with a liver punch but you will usually have to land the 2-3 a few times before this kind of set up will work.

You could also throw a stiff jab, then side step a throw an uppercut to the liver. Again, the jab is used here to expose the target area for the uppercut.

Double left hook head - body like Mickey Ward.

Right uppercut to the head, left hook to the body.

Overhand right to the head, left hook to the body.

Jab - Jab - let him counter - roll under stepping diagonally forward with your right foot (if you're orthodox) - right hook / uppercut to the body - roll under again almost jumping to left - left hook / uppercut to the body - left hook to the head - step out. Worked very well for me , though it took a while for me to learn to do this at speed.

Stepping diagonally forward with the left and rolling under a right hand gives you an 'open goal' on the liver.

I saw a mean clip of this last night here:

It's best countering the right cross...

Great set up for the right hook to the body. After the roll and step you will be pretty much squared and on the inside, in perfect position to land a devastating body shot with the right hand.

Yeah, I agree.......I like to set it up with a jab / right hand feint and then the left hook to the body.....

Whatever gets you inside. The standard one two can do that trick, a double jab as well, many things can. The idea is to keep your opponent occupied while you step in. If he anticipates you coming in (and is intending to counter) you can use that in your plan to get close. If he always lets you walk into a left hook for example, invite him to throw it, make him miss, and you're in.

If you're already inside you can set it up with any head punch, or even a plexus shot. Whatever gets his guard away from his liver.

And its a good position to keep pivoting around his body and staying inside throwing short hooks to the body and taking it up to the head. However fast footwork and head movement is key as its dangerous to linger in one place, and you've really committed yourself to attacking.

    I like doing this:

Jab (head) -> Right Cross (body) -> Left Hook (liver) -> Left Uppercut (head)

The trick is to land the right cross to the body. Usually, doing this will make your opponent will bring his right hand up to his head in anticipation of a left hook to the head. Once he brings that right hand up, it leaves his liver open for that liver shot.

Wow. Slipping a right cross? That is a HIGH stakes move. Misjudge and get caught. If he is on balance he wacks you with a left hook.

Hard to see materializing against all but the most over matched opponents.

I agree, slipping a right cross requires a wide head movement that can result in you being off balance even if successful. However, rolling under a right cross is ALOT easier to do in the same circumstance. Often, just being shorter than your opponent can make it work 80%+ of the time.
