Since we're talking about Laing, and I guess I'm at least something of a fan...

Speaking of Laing, I can't believe the man fought for over 20 years, especially with his style, training habits... basically everything. A real enigma, in and out of the ring.

Only fighters that Honeyghan fought that were better than Jones were Starling and Blocker?

You forgetting Don Curry totally outclassing Jones before busting up his face to force the stoppage?

Look at box rec, if you weren't around back then...

Honeyghan fought Gene Hatcher in 86. That was certainly a "soft defense." And Vaca was mediocre, as well.

In a right frame of mind Laing would destroy Honeyghan.
People forget Laing was a big welter and very fast with a punch.
Colin Jones would take Honeyghans head off.
And remember Laing was beating Jones till he got stopped.

Not the same Curry, he was weight drained and all over the place against Honeyghan and he was never the same after that either, he seemed to forget his guard watch where his hands are place if you ever watch the Jones fight again, different guy all together and he had some sort of illness that made him lethargic.

Vaca did better vs Simon Brown and Terry Norris than Laing would of in 1987, after the Duran fight Laing got knocked out by bums.

i could be wrong here but didnt he have trouble making weight with other fights? I think he had but not 100%. And if im right, which i may not be admittedly, he didnt seem to have any trouble with them. Now its been years from i seen the fight but my recollection is of Honeyghan surprising him by being more aggressive than id ever seen him fight before

Curry was having trouble with his management team before the Honeyghan fight, he wasn`t focused, his guard was lower and he wasn`t punching in combo`s. The same thing happened in the McCallum fight, Gil Clancy commented these days Curry doesn`t hold his hands as high and keeps lifting his head as if he`s looking over a fence.

Lloyd would have knocked Laing out.
    Laing left himself too open.

Hatcher was actually summer 87 and i saw it live on the bbc ..a few months later vaca came up.i agree these two were not as good as rosi, curry,or blocker but duff had lloyd on a breakneck schedule....hatcher and vaca were better than the volbrechts and ozaki and molinares"s of the day.....5 world title fights in a year for a party animal and injured hands womaniser like honeyghan was pretty intense.
