Exactly, Stracey broke into the upper echelons (which I assume is the point you're making, the fact he was European champion beforehand and didn't spend a long time at the top of the division cannot be disputed) but the only World class fighters he beat to my knowledge were Ernie Lopez and Hedgemon Lewis, who were both shopworn and right at the very end of their careers. Welterweight Hatton might well have done okay there, admittedly. But would he have been able to punch out a win even against that faded version of Napoles?

IMO, the answer is 'no'.

Also, 'European level' meant a lot more in those days, I wasn't using it as a slight on these guys at all.

Again, please elaborate as to why you think it's a 'mongy statement' or have I covered my arse sufficiently with this post? ;-)

 

Raggamuffin would have to much of everything at the weight. He was a dominant champion until he ran into the excellent Marlon Magic Man Starling.
