Well there ya go folks another eastern euro am star who will not materialize as a serious pro. What a stupid ****ing move, Lomachenko could have had his pick of the litter.

 

Ok, so then it will be a pro league for ultra-protected pro's. I don't see it selling well in any of the big boxing markets, but if some of these obscure (in pro terms) amateur boxing countries want to support this with their money then so be it.

i think all of u need to do your research. it sounds like pro boxing has no flaws and why would u think a sport with more belts than sense is a good alternative. but i agree how aiba is doing it is basically ufc boxing and is not sustainble.

but that is the problem with apb rightly or wrongly boxing is a sport that should not have any boundries that why it is steeped in drama.

i would expect a few kazaks and uzbeks to sign with them..

 

Take Shumenov for example. Former amateur standout who is popular in his home country of Kazakhstan. He also seems to have connections in Kaz that has helped his pro career so far...but yet he fights in front of a few hundred Americans, most of whom don't even know who he is. They won't make money selling tickets and TV contracts in the powerhouse amateur countries.

Hopefully the league is bankrupt in a year and at worst the fighters stay in limbo for like 2 years. Then again you could have the government of Azerbaijan just fund the entire thing lol.

 

You seem to be making an argument pro league. Shumenov is privileged, he seems to have some sketchy money of his own, and he's pretty much losing money in the pros. These other Central Asians are on their own in the pros, often thrown off the deep end like that Baha guy on FNF. Especially the lighter guys, they get way more security with the league.

Also, there's no matchmaking like in the pros, your avg comp level is higher than pro, at least first couple of years. That's why you got all these good pro prospects with records like 4-3 on fightfax from WSB.

No doubt it's a bad idea for Lomachenko, and the other Ukranian guys with pro styles.

 

^ It might help some of the less flashy talent that would struggle to market themselves in the pro game. But this AIBA league is just a way to keep these boxers signed on until the next Olympics and as a boxing fan I just don't really care for amateur boxing or whatever mutant pro variant they try to come up with. Most of the participants would have been amateur lifers regardless, but when they snatch the few really talented prospects, it's bad for boxing.

 

As a massive Lomachenko fan, a 'vasyltard if you will , I am bitterly dissapointed by this. He is such an incredible talent, one of the best amateurs of all time and easily the best pro prospect right now. I feel that he could have been a future top 10 P4Per, maybe he still will be but not with this AIBA crap. He could have had his pick at whatever promotional company he wanted and be on his way to superstardom after these Olympics but now, this will really stall his career. Hopefully it's only for a year or something and then he signs with someone better. Why the **** didn't he sign with K2 promotions or Sauerland promotions!!!!

But enough of this 'oh now he's guaranteed the gold' bull****, he was already guaranteed the gold. Han, the guy he is fighting is good but not close to Lomachenko's level. Of course he'll get the gold, Petrauskas would have been a much tougher fight for him but I feel Lomachenko woul have won that one too. Although it is a shame we didn't get to see it.

 

Also they APB won't start until fall of 2013 so they would be inactive for a year.

Im just sharing what i read on a Ukrainian site. It didn't have a link to what Pulev supposedly said about the nature of the contracts but i hope its accurate too.

 

The more I think about it the more I can understand it. Stay in the Ukraine with his family, stable pay check, health insurance, represent his country (he's very patriotic) and allowed to continue to compete in the olympics (he values olympic gold over a pro title).
As a boxing fan I don't like it but if I was in his situation it would be very tempting to go this route with your team mates and get paid some good money, rather than dealing with snakes and politics in America trying to make a name for yourself away from your home.

 

I suppose...... but I wanted to se him turn pro dammit!
