Well he will be pro.... hopefully AIBA allow their boxers to compete against boxers not in the APB, can't see that happening though as their goal is to take over.
It's a good idea and would be great if everybody got on board, for years the problem with boxing has been all the different organisations and fragmented titles. But with big money involved and massive promotional companies like Golden Boy, Top Rank and the newly formed TMT it's just not realistic for it to take off anytime in the near future.
It could be the start of the future of boxing or just a nice idea that was never going to catch on... My money is on the latter. Just a shame that Lomachenko is going to be a victim of this experiment. Boxing has been deprived of a superstar.
I don't like to play the race card but seeing a dominant, p4p white champion in the mainstream sports news could've improved boxings marketability and image in the west.
He has been the most dominant amateur boxer to ever live, there's no reason why he wouldn't continue that form into the pro game. It would be the biggest waste of talent ever for him to stay in the Ukraine fighting on WSB style cards.

 

Anybody can be a promotor in pro boxing its just a private company(even murderers), anyone can be a pro fighter as well or a pro trainer- there is no rules , boxing is completley unregulated in pros

Good take. I think Lomachenko and those other guys felt they wouldn't get a fair shake promotion wise fighting under the pro system dominated by USA promoters and decided to take another route. Hope it turns out well for them.

Honestly, as a selfish Lomachenko fan, I'm disappointed...but I can understand exactly why he's making that call and wish him the best. I hope this eventually leads to other fighters getting benefits like health insurance as well.

If he had one talk with his countryman, Andriy Kotelnik, about his experience with Don King promoting him in the U.S., can anyone really be surprised he decided not to be a part of it? The U.S. boxing scene is one of the worst for Eastern Euros from a promotional standpoint, which makes them more likely to get robbed in the ring. HBO and Showtime are reluctant to feature them because there's not a built in fan base, which also leads to promoters putting them on the back burner.

So, they fight less often, it's harder to get big fights, and they're likely to get robbed. No wonder he's happier staying at home.

Yes, it's disapointing that we won't see him in the pros, but faced with all the troubles you mentioned, I'd probably do the same thing.

 

lomachenko's a ****ing idiot. he could have signed with GBP and shot up the ranks with TV exposure and careful matchmaking to a title shot by next year. He would be famous, on his way to securing a pro boxing legacy and making more money than those clowns could ever give him. now he's basically gonna stay am (semi pro lol whata joke) until next olympics.....he'll never be **** now, what a ****ing joke....just another euro am star that isn't **** as a pro and it's sad cause he's one of the few that had pro potential. Meanwhile the guys from the American team who were bounced out early will surpass him and a couple will be champs while he's trying for the olympics again....shows what a joke and how meaningless the ams have become.
