Maybe. Looking at the P4P list most boxing fans have, you'll notice somewhat of a pattern though:

1. Mayweather
2. Ward
3. Rigondeaux
4. Bradley
5. Wlad
6. Pacquiao
7. Garcia
8. Martinez
9. Marquez
10. Lara

All the bold ones I consider defensively sublime. Their defense is their best trait no question about it. You can probably make a case for Martinez too but I think he excels at other departments. Is is possibly to be a great boxer nowadays with a leaky defense? I suppose yes but the likelihood ain't that high.

 

Boxed Ears is a perfect example of the thin line between brilliance and madness, and those visionaries who walk with one foot on each side of it. He's like the Steve Jobs of posting, if Steve Jobs had channeled his energy into alpaca farming.

 

There's no maybe about it. There have been many great fighters who were not defensive wizards. Becoming great is about how good/effective you are overall. Golovkins defense isn't too bad. It isn't his best trait but that is usually the case for an offensive fighter.

 

We know Quillin is on Showtime and it's obvious Martinez doesn't wanna fight...So why not Golovkin move up to for a challenge and fight Ward, Dirrell(Anthony or Andre), Bika, Froch, Groves or Degale? Golovkin did say he face anybody from 160-175 and yet he still gets praises for calling out welterweight Mayweather.

he was able to control and dictate Golovkin with it at times. Golovkin was getting frustrated with it more than he should.

i wouldn't mind either if Adama had a great jab or something, but it's not, it's pretty poor. only his lack of a right hand was worse.

have you also noticed that when in range a lot of the time, GGG is a bit slow in getting his shots off? his opponent could get 4 shots off in that time, move out of range before anything comes back, and have GGG reset himself again.
just keep doing this until you either cause too much facial damage or stop him because he's taken too many shots.

stick GGG in there with someone with a good jab, good control of range, a little bit of power and boxing ability, they'll expose the **** out of him.

when he loses it'll be a bit of a one sided affair and not him giving his all in a close loss. i can see it now.

Froch would beat him with one eye closed.

if Martinez has anything left, he'd run away with it as well.

 

i'm a fan. i like what he brings to the table. he's exciting.

but that doesn't mean we shouldn't see his faults.

that fight showed us that GGG marks up far too easily for my liking.

 

it's not about him taking punishment. it's about how easy it is to keep him off balance and on the outside with a good jab.

Adama had some success with it in a couple of rounds. and he's got a pretty crap jab. a fighter with a good one is going to cause him some serious problems. and that's without any other shot coming into play.
