I don't need enlightened. I've seen'em (Locche, Young), don't quite "get them", although I acknowledge Locche was a great fighter. Jimmy Young wasn't. I don't get the cult status but that's ok. To each his own. (I do "get" Monzon for what it's worht). I think Laguna is a bad matchup for Locche. Highly mobile, High workrate guy, huge motor, high skill, who is not going to plow headlong into Locche's traps (ala Fuji). Again, I think he beats Locche on workrate alone. Not many punches landed either way but many more attempted by Laguna banks rounds for him. And I don't think Locche steals many rounds on the aesthetic value of his defense because Laguna was quite a ring general in his own right. Four minutes of film didn't formulate or dispell that opinion.
Well, actually...though being a huge Locche fan, I don't necessarily envision him always pulling off his old magic anymore than I see Young doing the same..to use him as an example. I have always felt that, just as a Joe Frazier would have been wolfbane for Young, so would a mobile, selective puncher most likely be the kryptonite for Locche. Alfonso Peppermint Frazier , though he may have fought Locche on the Argentine's career downside...may have come up with the "secret remedy" for stealing points and winning vs El Untoccable. Still, it may be a mistake to assume too much based on 4 minutes of action taken from a full fight.
Even had I not seen the footage, I'd have assumed off the bat that Laguna would've been a bad matchup for Locche.
Goodness, silly me...these doors all look alike(!) took the wrong turn again and entered the "Locche Haters" club by mistake.
Laguna and the rest of that Panamanian school is chronically underrated except for Duran, good find op.
