if the boxers are progressing and doing well does it matter how they get there? If people were being poached and then their careers were not moving forward or doing well I would understand the point but it seems that in all of these cases the boxers are doing well? Which brings it back to it potentially being a jealousy issue because Lochend have a strong club in the amateurs and pros too. Agreed re no champions yet Billy Nelson - your stable is doing well and will hopefully have a few champions soon! If Brophy does well with Groves he will be one of the biggest names in Scottish boxing.
Terry McCormack and his team are all boxing people, they have the luxury of having a gym that is open all day and not just at set times, this makes it a good option for guys working shifts/ not working etc and the fact that Terry has a strong stable and lots of coaches mean that boxers can develop different aspects of their game. On Billy saying the gym doesn't have a track record in the professional game, that was true when he started his gym and whenever someone decides to start training professionals so the only way to get success is to build a stable etc which Terry has already begun and i'm sure that they will have success in the future!
i agree in part but I'm sure they have been trying to build for several years now, Tiffany can do well for there gym and benson is good as well
John McCarron is the best coach in the east coast by far imo, you see the huge improvements in his fighters when they come spar and on fight night
John is another good coach in the East, he is starting to build a decent team at Meadowbank BC and Lewis Paulin is looking the part too. Is he better than Terry? Time will tell but having 2 top coaches in the East is a great thing!!
But will it stop east coast fighter wanting trading in the west? AAA,Appleby.kenny Anderson, big Simmo,Gary Young the list goes on, why do you think they weren't trsind by east coast cosches David?
I think it will mate, all of the guys you are on about were boxing around 5-10 years ago and at that point the only coach would have been Terry but he was finding his feet with his amateur gym and still managed to be involved with Paul Appleby and Alex Arthur. At that time the only real coach that was known was Peter Harrison and yourself. Most of the guys mentioned above flirted with both of you at one time or another but didn't stick with it.
In fairness its a wee job in itself all the travelling, however Peter is a exceptional coach and if I were a fighter travelling an hour a day for superior coaching is a hour id spare in my day without an doubt
billy you have never been a pro boxer so don't know what it's like to travel while in training camp, an hour in the car while feeling drained, aches and pains from camp. Along with the issue of selling tickets. All these things add up for a fighter so those who have a gym on their doorstep would proberly be more content in jumping out bed training and leaving more time for important stuff. It's pro boxing so we all know what comes first.... Tickets
