    Lockett is making $250,000 http://www.vindy.com/news/2008/jun/06/in-the-spotlight/

I've read other interviews where he seems genuinly up for it, talks about the prestigious and legendary names that have fought for the middleweight title and how all of his low profile, low paid fights have been worth it to get to where he is now. I think he is up for it and I think he will quietly believe in himself that he might be able to win.

I'll be watching. I like Pavlik but can't help but support the underdog.

    All aboard the Lockett Rocket.

Apparently it is 5 timnes his best purse so he is getting in the region of $300k ( £150K).

If hew wins then hre would get at east $1M for the rematch and if he loves money, he will fight his best tomorrow night.

    Bow to the king.

Is itt worth it though, considering he is facing a pasting five time worse than he has previously had?

I'd say so. That sort of money sets you up for life.

Hatton said In his book that the WBU paid the bills while the British title was nice so.

Doubt Sports Network fighters would choose the WBU If It didn't make them more money.

He also said the Abraham offer was a low purse plus 5 options If he won.

I hope Lockett wins but what ever the outcome of the fight and what ever comes next for him he can be seriously proud of his achievments in the sport. Lockett has fought a decent a class of opposition that is comparable with anything a British or Commonwealth title holder would face.

I heard Oakey say a similar thing about his WBU reign that it brought better pay than other belts.

The WBU is a joke. Not even close to the prestige of the WBO, for example

Yep but certain fighters can make it work for themselves and fair dues to em. I always like a guy to do it the old fashioned way.

Joe public see world chamption and they do not care if it is WBU, WBF or WBC (apart from when Audley Harisson became WBF Heavyweight champ)

I guess Hattons reign as WBU champ has cemented the title in people's minds as a genuine title.

True especially ITV, when Jennings defended his WBU welterweight title against Ross Minter they made a real big deal out of it. The funny thing was when Minter senior was interviewed and he began to b/s about it being a big world title fight for Ross.

Fact is, this is this is their job, If I was offered 50k for a shot at the WBU or 20k for a shot at the Commonwealth, Im taking the WBU route everyday of the week.

Fact is why are fake world titles getting boxers paid more? where is the extra cash coming from? If a domestic level fighter sells out the York Hall defending his british title on SkySports, why would another domestic level fighter get paid more for selling out the same hall and fighting on the same channel? Who decides what titles are worthy of more money? It certainly isnt anybody who knows about boxing.

I found it strange that Abrahams promoters would be worried about losing to Lockett so much that they would be asking for options five fights ahead...?

They were probably asking for options if Lockett lost too. They are Germans.

I want to fight Gary Lockett next, after Pavlik is finished with him of course. I would like a purse of at least £1000 if Enzo is watching give us a chance I walk around at 11 1/2 stone and at 6'0 I would box his head off. Lets face it, it won't be hard after Pavlik smashes him.
