Source: frankwarren.tv Middleweight puncher Gary Lockett has been installed as WBO number one - and mandatory challenger to king of the division Kelly Pavlik. Currently WBU champion, Lockett, 30, has won 29 of his 30 fights, 20 by stoppage. A long-term fixture in the WBO top 10, Lockett now finds himself in a position to challenge Pavlik. The American won the WBO and WBC world titles when he defeated Jermain Taylor at the end of September. With the victory, he is now considered the best in the world at 160 pounds. Pavlik, 32-0, is due to meet Taylor in a rematch at the start of the year, so Lockett may have to wait before he gets his chance. And if Pavlik steps up to super-middleweight, then Lockett would be in a position to fight for the vacant title. But if the pair did meet, it would give Lockett the chance to add to British boxing's recent success, with Joe Calzaghe and David Haye winning double-world titles in recent weeks.

I recently spoke to someone in the Calzaghe stable who said that Pavlik would vacate rather than face Lockett.
uh oh...i think we'll be seeing some "pavlik is ducking lockett" articles appearing in a NOTW column near you
Ha ha... yes, and it will probably be Joe Calzaghe doing the accusing in his weekly column in the local rag.
I honestly beleive Lockett could be seriously hurt (if they ever fought) and I dont think Pavlik is that great remember what that journeyman, Tsarenko did to him
"For me the chance to fight Bernard Hopkins is appealing because it looks good on the old CV, he might be old but he's a tough guy and a lot of Americans will be sceptical about my chances in his own backyard." What's wrong with that?
