I wouldn't be shocked if 50M in China watched it. As said before, boxing isn't at all popular in China, but if that's what they had on the public sports channel during late Sunday morning, then I can see a lot of people tuning in. It's not like there are more than about 20 channels there, and if people want to watch sports, the sports channel is playing what the sports channel is playing. Also, when you consider there's about 1.3 billion people there, 50M doesn't seem like all that much.

Basically, if you stick anything on TV in China, you'll probably end up with about 50 million people watching it.

BBC were reporting prior to the fight that the rights had been purchased in 180 countries, China included.

Considering a population of 1.3 billion, 50 million with TV's is probable.

No, you eat more Indian. We probably eat the most "Chinese food" per capita, following the Chinese themselves.

It's more than probable considering there are only about 10 public (non-cable) channels available and one of them is dedicated completely to news and sports during the weekends (CCTV5).

Thanks for the info but thats Japan, an entire different country than what were talking about. Id believe Japan, Korea even Phillipines since boxing is popular in those countries and theyre generally more westernized than China is.

I don't think the figure of 50 million is far-fetched. I heard in several video interviews with various people before the fight that around 50 million viewers in China were expected. Don't rule out 50 million. Sounds like a crazy figure, but could well be true.
