Why would he go to cruiser if he doesn't stand a chance? You sound like an idiot! You want him to move up so you can see him lose? It has nothing to do with him challenging himself at all, does it? He moved up to face a top 10 P4P lightheavy in Kovalev, whooped up on Kessler, Froch and Abraham while they were in prime or very close to prime and you say he never challenged himself? Very high standards!

I think it's more personal than what you see in the ring, tbh.

I don't like his style of fighting/boxing, I have said he seems like a decent man and I wished him all the best for the future and wished him a happy retirement and that to you is "more than personal"? Really?

"I don't like his style".. I'm not the first to say it and I won't be the last. Other professional fighters have commented on Wards style and lack of "star quality".

Didn't Mayweather say a while ago "We need to make Andre Ward a star"?

Why would you need to make Ward a star if he already was one? And this was well after the Super 6.

I'll tell you why, because he lacks something, he is not entertaining, we can all sit here and do the old "I'm a boxing purist" act and pretend to marvel at his subtle skills and defensive skill but let's be honest we've seen far better than Ward over the years and combined with entertainment.

So how is what I said "more than personal"?

The quote, "Boxing is like jazz, the better it is the less people appreciate it."

I think that fits here well. I don't agree that "MOST" people won't miss him, I know a ton of people who'll miss him. I think you're letting your dislike for him blind you from that. Any knowledgeable fan will miss his style of fighting, he had some good ones over the years. All fighters have garbage fights from time to time.

He is one of the fighters who actually brought back an old style of boxing. He's a very 40's/50's type fighter.

Unfortunately, can't call anyone undisputed with old Superpimp and that loaded left hand still kicking, even if his level of comp has been a letdown since he won the belt.

I think so also. He retired too soon. and this undefeated thing is overrated. his legacy is not complete.

I will repeat.. I don't dislike Ward, I just don't like his style of boxing because it leaves me numb, I feel nothing.

It's just taste and preference, you use that Jazz quote and you're right it's fitting.. not many people I know like Jazz, sure they can see the talent involved, they might even see art but it does nothing for them and they would rather listen to something that they can relate to, feel, something that moves them.

My favourite fighter was/is Nigel Benn, is Benn an all time great? Would he make anybody's P4P top 25? Top 50?

No, of course not, but Benn is great to me, I went to the arenas to watch him fight and he was very exciting to watch and I could relate to him.

I was at Benn Vs McClellan, not only was it a truly great fight, I've never experienced an atmosphere like it again at any type of sporting event.

Those are great memories for me and in my opinion that's a big part of what truly great fighters do, they leave you with memories, sometimes great memories and sometimes sad memories, sometimes just an image, but it's ever lasting for most people.

And boxing fans can either say "I was there..." or maybe "I remember watching that fight......". But they remember.

For example, I'm British, I never saw Tyson fight live but I can remember watching Tyson fight, the ring walk, sometimes just a towel over him, sometimes nothing, black shorts, black boots then Tyson prowling the ring, never taking his eyes off his opponent, twitching his ridiculous neck, pushing his knuckle part of the glove in to the other glove and then absolutely blitzing somebody.

That is an ever lasting memory, an image, its iconic.

Wards hasn't left any iconic images in my opinion, his fights haven't left me with lasting memories good or bad, they haven't entertained me, I just felt boredom, they are fights I'd rather forget, and I repeat.. yes you can see talent, yes you can see the art but when has Ward ever been exciting or entertaining?

I can hear/watch somebody play the violin beautifully but am I going straight to ITunes to download it? No, it's not for me.

It's not personal, it's just taste and preference.

I think he should be respected for retiring at the right time. If he thought about retirement and continued on....it wouldn't have been the best Ward. Too many times we see the story of boxers not knowing when it's time to hang them up. I wish his career wasn't hindered with the legal drama that shelfed him for a good portion of his prime years, but I wish Andre well. He was a great ambassador for the sport.

You may have a point, I just think you should give him another chance. I understand most people dislike in fighters because of all the potential accidental fouls that could occur. Etc

For me, Pacquiao has never done anything for me. Even in his prime years 2004>2010, I always thought he was extremely boring. That's just me.
