Exactly. Losing fat doesn't make you fit. People just assume that they'll starve themselves, weight 50lbs less and be a 10 second 100m sprinter, marathon runner and gymnast all in one. It doesn't work that way. The majority of people who go through sudden weight loss were fitter before they lost the weight and if Arreola was starving himself, I suspect he's the same. The best way to diet is to eat often, eat healthily and workout a lot. A calorie deficit isn't a healthy way to lose fat.
Arreola doesn't lose because he's fat, it's because he has no talent to back it up. The Klitschkos are really disciplined, but in this current day and age I could see a 280 pound Vitali still beating everybody.
Arreola always talks about losing weight in interviews. It helps his popularity, since most Americans can identify with obesity issues. He seems to have made some progress this year, but if he gets too comfortable at 240 I feel that's a mistake--being that big might help him club bums and take shots from slow big guys but he won't have the speed or stamina to compete against a Klitschko. I bet he'd be a lot better at 225-230 but he'd need to get down there and train to fight at that weight.
240 in itself isn't bad for Arreola its closer to the weight he should be at. His weight has been slowly moving up the last couple fights and that could be worrisome. Thats why I would like to see Arreola get off this streak of C-level fighters and mix it up with some other contenders. This newfound dedication is only going to last so long and I don't want to see him waste it on guys who aren't more on his level. The first 2-3 guys were fine but now I want to see him face the other top guys. Of course, if he's simply waiting on a Klitschko payday than I can't blame him for not risking it but he either needs to fight Wlad next or another top 10 guy, no more of these C-level fights.
After around 3 rounds against Vitali his legs started to lock straight everytime he took a step forward or back. He then started to take smaller and smaller strides. His quads were absolutely shot after ten minutes. That is a real concern especially when he steps up the competition (if ever) because its gonna go more than 3 rounds and a come forward fighter who can't come forward has no hope. Dropping more weight would definately help remedy this as would jogging and eating properlly. I actually think he has a very slight skeletal frame and could fight at a much lower weight..............and should.
If a focused Zab Judah is like Pernell Whitaker mixed with Ray Robinson, a ripped Arreola is like Tyson mixed with God.
Neither does belly flab. But stamina does though. Do you really think he's in the best condition he could be when he's weighing in at 240? Cmon man.
He should be able to get in ideal fighting shape just by eating smaller, more frequent, nutritionally sound meals. Of course coupled with proper training habits. He is either not doing his part at the training table or has some **** for brains taking his money under the guise of being a nutritionist. The only other possibility is that Cris has some strainge alien amorphous DNA, more manitee in nature than human. Actually; I would be far more concerned that he is using Lionel Butler et al, as prepareatory opponents for Wladimir Klitschko than his fighting weight.
Spot on- his natural lean weight is around 180-190 pounds. He's got heart, but he can't control his eating/beer drinking in between fights.
Yep, he's a tall, skinny guy who got fat. If you go back and look at his fights before he turned pro, he's skinny and lanky. There's not much muscle under all the flab.
7 percent bodyfat Arreola could make the CW limit. Cudos to him, he's fighting naturally bigger buys all the time!
