Williams has proven that he's nothing more than a glorified, unskilled, swarmer. He has no name, no draw, and he's not attraction. Getting schooled by Quintana doesn't make you a worthy opponent for Mayweather. He then goes on to get raped by Martinez twice, struggled with Cintron and then gets the brakes beat off him again last night.

This guys is not HOF, he not a good fighter although I respect his heart. People were so desperate to hype of an opponent for Mayweather that it actually kind of sad that they chose a guy of Williams caliber.

Williams was a good fighter at one point in time. It was obvious that dude was never going to last; but he was one of the better fighters in the world at the time and a live threat to anyone from 147-60... I think denying that now in light of his fall from grace is revisionist.

EDIT: I hope that in time people realize Quintana was a much better fighter than he ever got credit for.

Cotto, and hell even Berto treated Quintana like their *****. It says a lot about Williams that a man of his size let Quintana ***** slap him around the ring like that for 12 rds.

    Couldn't agree more.

Why fight the 33-0 WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams when he was coming off a huge win over Antonio Margarito, when you could welcome Ricky Hatton back to welterweight again after his shitty performance there versus Luis Collazo?

Why fight the resurgent 34-1 Paul Williams in 2008 who had just regained the WBO welterweight title by knocking out Carlos Quintana in 1 round, when you could fight The Big Show in WWE instead?

No point at all. Hatton and The Big Show were better opponents for Floyd's welterweight resume for sure.

Because the Hatton fight was on the radar long before Williams became Champion, and Hatton had a much larger fanbase and reputation. Nobody really knew who the **** williams was. Beating Margarito means nothing. 2 face first brawlers trading punches.

And Hatton will be in the Hall, Williams will not.:deal

Yeah I will admit, that people had me gassed up thinking that Williams might be a legit challenge mainly because of his size. I feel foolish for thinking that way.

Why did pac fight mosley 45-6 who was coming off a gift draw against mora and a battering against floyd, when he could have fought undefeated WBC champ Berto who was 27-0 coming off two KO wins of Quintana and Hernandez?

The Hatton fight was already being negotiated before Williams beat Margarito. Mayweather vs. Williams was never a fight people were clamoring for. Williams would've been a nice win for Mayweather, but 10-15 years from now, no one is going to give a damn that he never fought Williams. Now if the Pac fight never happens, he'll never live that down.

It wasn't just his size. It was his southpaw stance, ridiculous workrate, good chin(at the time), and solid punch variety. you had a lot of people saying P-dub would be a bridge too far for Pacquiao too.
