Calzaghe could come out of retirement now he's allowed his hands to heal up and go back to being the knock out artist of his youth, he'd end matters against Ward in 1 min and 26 seconds of the opening frame.

A quite excellent post by the OP. I suppose you have to give Ward some credit for avoiding Kovalev's power for the rest of the fight, but there's no doubt about it - Ward's chin is not of a good standard and he needs to be called on it. He also clearly lost the fight.

 

Not often am I awestruck but to have Mr Farage ( frankly it should be Sir Farage ) on this forum is huge, a personal hero of mine and i am not a person to have heroes.
I am delighted to see you have wonderful boxing knowledge too, the forum is in dire need of drainage as the swamp is a mess!

Wards chin is indeed hopeless, I like Kov but he is a little cumbersome, maybe his age has snuck up on him a bit too but it really did provide us proof that when shoe salesman Boone defeated Ward it wasn't just a glitch, Ward has a terrible chin and was beaten soundly by both men.

 

I personally feel Kovalev is a poor man's Jeff Lacy (of course before Calzaghe basically gave him ******ation) the fact that Ward required 3 American judges on the take to win just does to show how inferior he is to Joe.

 

That is a good assessment and he is clearly past prime too, so a poor mans shop worn Jeff Lacy.

I think Boone already proved even Joe right this second couldn't lose to Ward let alone an active Joe, if the shoe salesman didn't then the son of a forklift driver definitely proved beyond a shadow of a doubt Ward couldn't hang with any version of Calzaghe.

 

That's true. I think if Calzaghe has allowed his hands to heal with all this time out of the game, he could comeback now and return as the knock out artist of his younger days. Forget getting Lacyed, Ward would be Veited. He hit him with the same shot he put iron chinned Eubank on his back with, but Ward wouldn't be waking up until we are in a post apocalyptic future with that chin of his.

 

Calzaghes shot that did the unthinkable to Eubank would potentially shatter every atom in Wards body, Eubank has plaque on his teeth that show more resistance to a dental hygienist than Wards chin does to a punch. Ward would be picked up with a sponge after that type of punch.
