This post makes a lot of sense ... I am more concerned that Ortiz had all that trouble with a blown up jr. welter who shouldn`t have been in his class... Good post !
Too many 18 year olds on here that don't know the History of the sport. Many fighters have gone on with broken jaws, broken hands, broken orbital bones, awful cuts, etc. This guy has quit multiple times and they want to bring up Duran or someone else. It is idiotic. This is the same guy that said after the Maidana fight that he didn't deserve to get beat up like that. Too many people can't handle reality on here. The kid is a Serial Quitter. He thinks he is too good for the sport. A few are not even worth responding too like the idiot that brought up SRR against Maxim the guy gave all he could give. Ortiz didn't do that. He quits way before that point. It is pitiful. The sad thing is he will be right back on Showtime (he is supposedly black balled from HBO) after Golden Boy sets him up with a few easy touches and he will get a 4th chance while some other deserving guy has to wait. Makes me sick.
Yeah, it is truly unfortunate that ANY boxing fan would equate what Roberto Duran - who had more than proven his blood and guts attitude to the sport before the Leonard fight and then went on to prove it more afterward - with this glass-jawed hype job. Let alone Sugar Ray Robinson. What this shows is what a responsibility we knowledgeable, long-time boxing fans have in educating these ignorant fanboys.:yep
Rocket scientist, now I love Duran, but he quit twice ! You trying to pass yourself off as a boxing `genius` ? Please... Go back and read alittle bit (can you ? ) there have been many fighters over th eyars who have quit. Ortiz is not revotionary in this area... By the way Einstein, did you know that SRL said some very similar things in defeat after he lost to Duran ??? Or, are you so old that you forgot ? Truth is SRL even questioned the sanity of it after he ahd fits with Benitez. You do rememebr him, right ??
Hey boxing historian, did you forget Duran/Lawlor ??? Duran strained the muscle in his armpit , and stopped. Try to read a little bit !
BTW, the Robinson /Maxim reference was a joke ! Brilliant minds up in here... Look, i always felt that Ortiz was overated. Puts on a good fight usually, but not great by a long shot. The problem is that the chicken shits that comment on here questioning a fighters heart, don`t have a clue... We have no idea what a fighter is going through in that moment of a fight. There are different levels of jaw fractures, judging by the difficulty Ortiz had tryin to close his moth or talk, it looked pretty severe. When Chicanito quit against DeLahoya, he said after that the pain was immense. And after the Docs said his nose had basiaclly splintered so sever was the break. He was ROASTED by the press. He enede coming back and winning another titel and proved his cojones by sahking off a bad throat injry against Azumah Nelson to come back and win. And he didn`t have to, he could have stayed on the stool and won. I have a hard time calling anyone with the balls to don the gloves a coward and quitter ...
I have never used the word coward on here and you are making my point this was Ortiz chance to prove he wasn't a quitter but the guy quit again. I can't respond to your other post because it is the most incoherent thing I have ever read. Not sure why you are even bringing up SRL. Ortiz has no Chin, no Heart, and is as Mentally Weak as it gets he just proved it for the 3rd time. If he keeps fighting he will keep quitting. He is bad for the sport.
Thanks for providing us all with your amazing boxing acumen Who`s your hero, Mr. Boxing ???? And you are correct, he is totally mentally weak. To come back off the deck against a well-juiced Berto in a thriller shows he has nothing at all ...
Hey Einstein, did you read the report on the `quitter` ? Jaw severely broken, pins and titanium plate installed. By the way, did you know that Kostya Kszu (spell) made the BHOF ? And he in fact quit against Hatton and some say against Vince Phillips as well... Hard to believe that these `quitters `ended up as world champs and BHOF worthy. What is boxing coming to ???
Great post. I remember when Boxing fans used to LIKE extremely violent fights and actually liked to see fighters who were paragons of toughness rather than coddled HBO and GBP Hype Jobs like Ortiz who fold like an accordion at the first sign of adversity. The amount of people willing to support a fighter like this and who would actually pay to watch this joke fight are as disgraceful as he is. Until Boxing fans demand better we will continue getting assailed by clowns like Quitor.
Means nothing. Many fighters throughout History as I, Zakman and others have shown you have kept on fighting instead of quitting not once, not twice, but for a third time in a fight. You don't know what you are talking about. Warriors keep going until they can't and either go out on their shield or finish the fight. Fact.
MM, excellent post as usual. I would hate to see this clowns reaction if he was around in the 20's,30's,40's,50's,60's, etc before referees would stop a fight over a bloody nose like they do today. If you could get back to your feet before the count of 10 you were allowed to continue. Boxing is a brutal sport this isn't Golf or Badminton.
