to be honest with you i haven't seen much of chavez jr, this is the 2nd or 3rd fight of his i've watched.

the reason i was expecting something better is because there are threads open about chavez being on peds, looking like superman, throwing thousands of punches, sounded like he transformed into pacman overnight, so i had my hopes set high.

Still doesn't explain why you're describing his tactics as simply "brawling and getting hit a lot". That's not what transpired at all.

well he did get hit alot, instead of using his height and/or jab he traded blow for blow, he got hit with alot of unnecessary punches, each time he landed a big punch he was open to receive one.

This was a one sided mega beatdown as far as I'm concerned. Chavez might have took some ones occasionally and a lot on the gloves, but Duddy's head was about to come off whenever Chavez landed his shots. Just a beatdown.

That's what I saw. I saw the majority of Duddy's shots not landing cleanly.

I was choking on my drink when the commentators kept saying that was a close round. "You serious? Duddy is a ****ing punching bag in there".

Yeah, I agree with what Addie said. He showed a surprising amount of versatility in punching and combos, went upstairs and downstairs, and did so consistently for all 12, he looked good no question. I think he needs to improve his defense a lot but that is some of the best overall improvement i've seen in a fighter from one fight fight to the next, and not just physically.

I have not seen one person give any credit to Duddy for making this an entertaining fight. Sure Chavez jr won alright but Duddy was right there with him punching back.
Both fighters absorbed punishment. If only some of the so called superstars like Duck,Calzaghe & Jonesjr had the balls that John Duddy showed then maybe they'd really be regarded as ATG's

    Congrats to him.

I was saying to my father, I hope they have a rematch in Ireland or NYC.

It would make a lot of money for them.

Wha?? Chavez got hit, but most of the shots he avoided, blocked or gave with the momentum to take off the steam. He had a wide variet of combinations that were very successful which is something he's not known for. He showed a lot more lateral movment and better defense. He was going "hook" crazy but he wasn't wild. Most of his shots were tight and crisp. If you were not impressed its only b/c you havn't seen him before to know or appreciate the improvment. And this was only after 4 weeks of training with Freddie.

The fight was very entertianing to say the least. Thanks to both fighters and added thanks to the chin Duddy has. He has a warriors heart that's for sure and he didn't come to lay down. He fought like he wanted to win.

The fight was on free TV in the Philippines, chief.

and the other local sports channel counter programmed it with the Arreola-Adamek fight card.

Simultaneously showing, 2 different fight cards.
