It was a "close" fight but one of those things that was a clear Golovkin victory. I don't get how, if you are an unbiased spectator, you could give Jacobs the 1st and 3rd rounds! Dude, Golovkin controlled both rounds. Numerous jabs landed, all Jacobs did was hit GGG's gloves! These are the defining rounds of the fight, if you gave those to Jacobs then yes you either have him losing by a round or winning by a round. The fact of the matter is that Jacobs lost those rounds cleanly. People need to understand, JABS COUNT AS PUNCHES! You don't discount jabbing! Look at the compbox of those rounds, Golovkin easily won them. If you take these facts into account after the fourth round Golovkin was winning by 3 rounds! That means that to have won the fight Jacobs would have had to win 6 of the next 8 rounds. That did not happen whatsoever! Man, people wanted Golovkin to lose badly. He put on a boxing masterclass with his jab once again.
I actually had GGG win the fight but I gave Jacobs round 1. Admittedly it was very close. I thought Triple G's Jab won round 2 which I see ppl giving to Jacobs on here. Round 3 was a clear GGG round for me
I just rewatched the beginning rounds. I gave Jacobs the 2nd round because it was close and to give him the benefit of the doubt. The fact is that it could have gone to Golovkin. That is the problem, Jacobs didn't really win any rounds cleanly. But rewatch the first round, literally Jacobs did nothing. Golovkin landed solid jabs onto his chin and kept him backed up the entire time.
I was surprised so many people gave Jacobs the first round, I think it was pity scoring basically, just give him any round that's even somewhat close because you expect him to get KO'd later on anyway.
Jabs count... Funny in the Ward/Kovalev fight people were going on about how power shots is what really counted! Oh how the tide of judging changes with each fight!
I know jabs count and for good reason, but a lot of people were trying to say that a good power shot negates several jabs! I guess that's were the subjectivity in judging a fight comes into play! Just being the Devil's advocate!
Of the first 3 rds, Gennady won rd1 most clearly; rd 2 can go to Jacobs based on "touching" punches, and rd 3 was a Golovkin rd until Jacobs landed a single right hook in a clinch at 2.40. I don't think one single punch was sufficient to negate Gennady's work that rd, and 2 judges agreed with me. In any case, rd 1 belongs to Gennady, which is the only rd of the trio that he won on all cards. So much for Lederman's " Jacobs clearly won the first rd"...
That was not a boxing master class. GG had enough in the tank to win round 12 and that's where he won it. The hbo crew had it right. Who ever wins round 12 wins the fight. I commend both guys for their effort. GG a Lil stronger in the end.
