ALL THREE fights we saw were relatively competitive, or close to pick'em matchups, with Kovalev potentially a future top LHW and Geale who was considered top-5 Middleweight. If Haymon still had then reins we would be watching Gary Russell fight TBAs instead. The fact of the matter is, the network split makes things even worse for the sport's credibility in one way, but forces heavier competition and more quality matchups in another. It's a mixed bag. I get the sense Showtime told GBP in no uncertain terms they didn't have the disposable cash to throw around like HBO does and they really need to stack their cards to make it worth their while.
I watch & subscribe to both HBO & Showtime so it makes no difference to me. (SHO has the better roster of fighters "I" like to watch)
As for being starstruck by Michael Buffer, he swells the ranks of literally dozens of world champion boxers remarking how being in his presence made them feel like kids at the ballgame eager for autographs.
No. We need more fights like Donaire vs. Arce and Pavlik vs. Lockett. All promoters get freebies now and then but the point of the thread is the quality of HBO has gone way down. Now we have Terence Crawford shoved down our throats and we have to like him?
Didn't Kellerman say Crawford was "probably" the best lightweight in the world? now that IS going wayyyyy ****ing overboard with the hype
Yes, he did, he said, he always saw their boxing programming on TV and he couldn't believe he was there.
Pac, Marquez, Rios, Alvarado, Martinez, Chavez, Thurman, Stevenson, Dawson, GGG, Donaire, Rigo...these are scrubs??? You are clueless. GB & Showtime have a lot of the talent at 140-147 right now but lets not get carried away. HBO is doing just fine.
If you understand the business side of things you will know HBO is doing just fine and will make wayyy more money they Showtime.
Valid point:hey Showtime was promoting up and coming boxers at one time. I love to see the new kids box. It is strange because HBO and Showtime has both did a 180 on talent. I don't care as long as they keep putting up decent fight cards:smoke
Showtime FOTY: Figueroa vs Arakawa Showtime Card of the Year: Berto vs Soto Karass This is ESPN level, but that's not bad. You could make several of these Berto Karass, Geale Barker entire fight cards for what they spent on the 10-1 projected mismatch that was Broner Paulie. That's bang for your buck, and HBO has been doing well there lately.
I bet you don't mind HBO shoving those all those old foreigners down your throat... Mathysse is a Haymon fighter....be careful what you say lil hater:deal
