Totally embarrassed another top 10 fighter today. Clearly better performance than Ward / Kovalev last week. Only a handful of pro fights, all of which were against decent opponents. This is the boxer that boxing needs.
Better performance than Kovalev/Ward because those two were evenly matched. P4P #1? He's getting there.
Based on accomplishments he still doesn't deserve the title over someone as utterly proven as say, Andre Ward... but from a pure boxing perspective I'm not sure there's a better boxer P4P and that it will be proven in time.
He's the best in boxing. He's becoming so far above the competition it's genuinely getting weird. Despite him being the best, he's no.4 P4P after this at least.
Vasyl is the best nobody is even competing with him. He already had to move up and look what he did tonight. Walter's wasn't even competitive. Crazy
Head to head, he's #1 for me. He shouldn't be this good, this fast. The guys he's outclassing are quality fighters and he's making them look bingo hall caliber. Going by pure accomplishments, he's probably still got some work to do for #1. Lucky for us, the potential matchups are there for some great fights.
But he has fought the best possible opposition for a championship level fighter the last two years. When we're talking about p4p in 2016 it doesn't matter what fading fighters did five years ago. Salido, Russell, Walters, Martinez is a great resume, and not just for a guy who hasn't had many pro fights. Also, if you don't think p4p is who beats who if they were the same size, a fairly objective measure is how dominant the guy is. Gonzalez struggled and barely beat Estraada and Cuadras, neither Ward or Kovalev could earn a clear win in their fight and both have lost rounds in recent fights, GGG was outboxed and exposed a bit against Brook. Lomachenko has pretty much won every round he's boxed since the Salido fight. He undresses and demoralises elite boxers. He has to start getting more accolades in the p4p ranks for how dominant his performances are.
