Floyd was brilliant defensively but had no offence at the higher weights but Lomachenko has better footwork which sets up his offensive style. Thoughts?

I judge their eras separately tbh. Floyds last fight was in 2015, Lomas first title fight was in 2014, so Loma was coming in as Floyd was going out. its hard to judge really, I try not to work it out coz I change my mind all the time, I just appreciate that they are two ridiculously talented boxers who I think will both go down as the best of their eras

I think he's the most talented of this era and a great already and will probably go on to prove he's the best of this era. He's far more offensive and better to watch than Floyd. He has his own unique style, beautiful to watch. It's amazing how defensively he's so hard to hit clean and yet offensively he's all over you, he bamboozles everyone.

I see the BBC wrote a story about how great he is. And truth be told he is, but then the comparisons start and that is not just or fair. They use Oscar as an example ( not that I like him now, but in his day he was great to watch ) the comparison falls flat on its face as Oscar did not spend near 8 years as an amateur, maybe if he had he would of done 3 weights in 12 fights and not in the 22 he did it in.
Lets also not forget Loma lost his first Title fight, and the fighters Oscar faced win or loss were greats I doubt the same can be said for Loma's opponents right now.
    Just saying

Floyd did have an offence. Don’t forget he outpunched Pacquiao, Canelo, De La Hoya and everyone else he faced. He lacked punched power. But his punch output was ridiculously good, accurate too.

Lomachenkos is the most skilled fighter today. He is not afraid to fight anyone in their prime and he takes chances, he has great defense, but he takes chances, goes on the offensive.......................he is more exciting than Void will ever be................

wouldn't go that far, he already has a loss.. floyd would adapt his style to who he was fighting and always found a way to win, loma hasn't got that attribute as he was beaten, and if he goes up another weight garcia will beat him up and stop him, and so would of crawford at 140, but manny pacman was able to up through the weights up to light middleweight and beat his opponents through offence like he did to dela hoya. Loma looks good against smaller guys with padded records who quit, lets see him face mikey then see how good he is.

people judge Mayweathers career too much on what he did after the age of 32 ie past his prime, most are not old enough to remember what he was like in his youth.

Some people do like the defensive side of fighters, mostly people who have took part in boxing acknowledge what he was able to do. He adapted his style as he got older, his hands got more brittle and he moved up in weight which is one of the reasons he wasnt beaten.

Loma is a dream also his balance and angles he creates is possibly the best i have ever seen.

I just laugh at folk who try to talk up another fighter by comparing or bringing down another fighter. Just admire what that fighter can do without trying to run another fighter down.

This is only really a problem in boxing you dont really see it in any other individual sport. Casual Boxing fans when they open their mouth can be the cringiest of any sport IMO.

Great post and completely agree on your last point. I try and avoid boxing conversations at work, at the football etc. at all costs.

haha if I were to say the names:
    Canelo
    Golovkin
    Lomachenko

they would ask if I have learned a new language and just showing off!!

Say AJ (not a dig at AJ just using him as an example) and they are surprised when I say that Lennox was better than him. its like: "seriously, is Joshua not like the best ever?" how can you then speak about boxing after that?!

Ok so I literally just asked to the two guys with me in the office to name as many current boxers as they can.
    the results were:
    AJ
    Khan
    Pacquiao
    Mayweather

I told them that Mayweather is retired and Pac is 39 !! I had to google them and show them that I wasnt lying !!
So ashamed of them !!! hahaha

I will converse with posters who are old enough to have seen Floyd at the start when he was at 130/135lbs beating guys up and knocking them out. Most of the kids getting excited about Loma didn't see Pretty boy Floyd when he was at his offensive best. Floyd was a beast. Loma is good don't get me wrong but again people are going way over the top, Judge him when he has had half the fights Floyd had a top/championship level. I will say it as many others have, don't ignore the fact that Solida beat the breaks out of him. What happened to the rematch? When everybody was banging on about Castillo getting robbed in the first fight, what happened, a rematch! Winning 3 titles at 3 weight divisions is a great achievement but ultimately it was three fights all for a belt and not the best guy in the division.

Mayweather was phenomenal at 130. He was a sharp puncher in addition to everything else he demonstrated at higher weights, and was completely dominant over very tough competition at that weight.

Lomachenko is the dog's bollocks and I'm genuinely excited to see what he can achieve. Unlike many fighters from this era, he has the desire to take risks and dare to be great. However, it's way too soon to start finding his place in history. All the signs are good, but we need to see how his career pans out before getting too carried away.
