Agree completely with everything. Especially about in a split second he's directly to the side of his opponent. The lad is f****ng phenomenal never seen anything like him.
I'd like to see him test the water in higher weights - as obviously he can't be worrying about retiring undefeated.

I didnt see the fight as wide as most seem to. Granted I never scored the fight but I thought it was close. Linares for me is his best win by a mile it also tells me that Loma is defo fighting well above his natural weight. Linares is pretty skillful and was as you said a good bit better. I just dont want Loma to get beaten by size rather than ability though. Loma tries to create too many openings at times and he will get caught with something big from someone bigger than him soon enough that will cost him.

Linares defo had his full respect though, he is the first fighter than I have seen land fairly cleanly on Loma whilst in in that pocket.

What a great fight it was between a world class fighter with a big weight advantage against an elite fighter. For me loma is p4p number 1 but Would love see him take on beltran gervonta Davis and mikey Garcia if he defeated all 3 what wouod that do for his legacy

It’s a bit of a hard one comparing Loma to Floyd due to just how different their styles are. If Loma wanted to fight solely off the backfoot at these higher weights, he’d probably make it as easy as Mayweather made it look but he wants to entertain and attack his opponents. We know PBF was a different animal to Money May but when Money started moving up he adapted his style. Yes, partly down to his hands, but mainly due to his genius, he knew he wouldn’t be as effective at the higher weights so he adapted. Loma doesn’t seem interested in that and just wants to put on a show. I mean, he looked bored after 3 rounds on Saturday and just got ridiculously over confident. So I think it’s only going to get more difficult to compare them accurately

Spot on post. Agree with that. Still think hes overrated based on his ridiculous level of skill. The boy can do it all....effortlessly. I still think Linares wasn't that far away from showing the blueprint. Your gonna need a big weight advantage to beat him. And have ridiculous stamina cause he keeps you working constantly. I say Davis gives him a go in time. Davis hits hard. Lomachenko showed on Saturday hes hittable. I think lomachenko drowns Davis but if he can get shots off from the start his power can get to lomachenko. Same with Garcia. Who doesn't give much away. None of these guys have the ability of lomachenko. But you won't need to have better ability to beat him. A good fighter who,s a hard puncher with good timing and great stamina will beat lomachenko.

Floyd fought that way for a reason...the more you go up weight/s the less punishment you can afford to take. Lomachecko to open to get the same kind of success. Pacman...got away with it cause his power was great till he went too far up north. I think he was slightly harder to deal with offensively that lomachecko as well. More power. Slightly quicker with his hands when he got going. He,d throw ridiculous amounts of punches when he got going.

Seems like I m overly criticizing lomachenko...he' brilliant probably more overall skill than pacman and maymeather ever had. Hes a lot more beatable than them tho IMO. Linares his best win. Linares is class had a lot of advantages Saturday night. But the reality of it is hes struggled a bit with Campbell. Getting rave reviews off the back of masterclassing coolla.

Doesn’t sound over critical at all, seems like you really rate him but have an issue with the hyperbole of “TBE”, unless I’m mistaken, which is understandable. Not sure about Davis, I’m not sure he has the IQ to beat him, and I don’t think Davis would have a size advantage to bank on. Agreed about “you don’t have to be the most talented to beat him” Salido proved that, albeit an extraordinarily inexperience pro version, but he still proved it. I actually think someone with a lot less talent can beat him, a good pressure fighter is what he seems to have some difficulty with.

I think Loma has the better overall skill set to Pac, but as you said, Pacs power was otherworldly along with his skill set. Whereas Loma wasn’t known as a power puncher necessarily at 126, let alone 135+. Having said that, he’s still stopping or taking guys out who outweigh him so you never know

I think the reason he does look beatable is that he takes that many risks. He seems to want people to completely capitulate to him, and he goes all out to do that. If he took a step back, I think he’d barely get hit. I’m only 22 so I’m maybe not the best qualified to say this, but I don’t think I’ve seen many block punches as easily as he did against Linares, a lot of Linares punches landed on gloves and arms

I had it 6-3 in terms of rounds. See quite a few had it even, some with Linares ahead, which I just do not understand at all. The KD makes the 6-3 reasonably close anyway.

Not that it mattered. Lovely fight to watch, right man won and hopefully we see him in with Mikey.

Anyone see what Macklin said on Twitter? That Loms should consider coming over to fight Crolla hahaha

either had his Sky hat on, or Crolla has seriously pissed him off, that would be dangerous

I m not sure where people can see it anything but close in terms of scoring. Looking at the punch stats Linares out punched him. Won more rounds going just by punches....and punched harder than loma did plus put him over in the sixth.

Obviously punch stats don't tell the whole story. But what do you do...put ring generalship over punch stats. Put looking great in a ring above punch stats. Put amazing footwork, angles etc above punch stats.

I think punch stats should be coming first bearing in mind linares was hitting him with the harder punches. At the end of the day its effective aggresson if your hitting your opponent more than hes hitting you. We know its four things we,re looking at when judging a round but for me I think punches landeds got to be a big player when judging a round.

I'm not sure I agree with RE to harder punches. Linares had a massive weight advantage, his punches will always appear harder so that seems an unfair thing to rate highly in my scoring. And I actually thought Linares looked more hurt than Loma did at times too.

Don't get me wrong, there was of course close rounds. I value ring generalship pretty high in my scoring. That is to say: .who is doing what they want to be doing' in there, so perhaps that led to my more lopsided score than yours. A big part of it for me was that the clear Loma rounds where generally much more clear than the Linares ones. I thought ha landed cleanly more regularly than Linares and made him miss a whole lot more.

Punch stats have their uses, I'm not one ot totally dismiss them. My only concern is their accuracy

Yeah completely agree with that post. Probably right with Davis. Think Davis and Garcia will give him something to think about tho. That's exactly what I meant...rate him massively 'tbe' stuff is out of hand tho. Boxing fans just like to put someone on a pedestal. Canelo slowed the golovkin train down. Then lomachenko now gets it. The boys terrific but stuff like lomachenko,s unbeatable and every excuse for anything that shows him as fallible. He got put over...and Linares landed plenty on him is pretty much the truth. On the otherhand he stopped a great fighter who was bigger and longer than him. He's tremendous but as you said beatable. Agree about the pressure fighter giving him trouble.

Probably true if he takes a step back...he,ll barely get hit or get hit a lot less. Hope not tho cause thhis style makes him a joy too watch. Great post mate. Found myself agreeing with pretty much all of it.

Fair enough mate. Good post. My only thing would be is it a case we,re scoring everything to lomachenko cause hes fantastic to watch. Almost effortless. Because of that it becomes a case of he really really needs to lose a round to lose it. I had it close but watched it late last night nursing a hangover. Not really scoring rounds as such. But felt Linares was getting success. Lomachenko ended up drowning him in the end. But scoring round for round...with Linares getting the knockdown...I had it close. Have a look at the punch stats if you get the chance...see what you think.

Oh that's definitely a valid point. In the same sense though, because we're so used to seeing Loma dominate I think any sort of success against him can be magnified exponentially. Linares definitely had success though, I thought he boxed really well. I'll take a peek at the punch stats when I get a chance

i think Davis' speed and power would give anyone problems, couple that with his ability to work well on the inside with those uppercuts, southpaw v southpaw, would be a very good fight, would love to see it

yeah, i'm massively bias towards Loma, and would love more than anything to be able to sit here and say "hes the greatest of all time" but i just cant. could argue he has one of the best skillsets, but thats all, atm.

Agree with this post. I was ringside and it was a close fight. Anyone who thinks differently is a Loma fanboy and that is coming from a Lomachenko fan. Respect to Linares, they should fight again.
