Loma v Linares

Sorry chaps, I only had Linares winning one round and that was because of the knockdown. Linares was carrying a stone weight advantage over Loma and whilst he had tiny pockets of success he did not have control of the fight at all. Loma was beating him in all aspects of scoring, he was landing his shots and making Linares miss (effective aggression), he was controlling the action (ring generalship), he was catching him clean and busting him up (clean hard shots) and Linares was barely landing anything clean on him such was his superb footwork (defence) and movement.

Even on the punch stats he bettered Linares in every department. Linares is a world class fighter but Loma is elite.

 

Mikey Garcia is the true test. If they can both win their respective next bouts and then head 2 belts apiece in to a unification it will be something of the ages.

 

I could argue he won the first and two or three of the later were close were he was walking Loma down. Three rounds + the knockdown are certainly possible but no way was he ahead.

Fantastic boxer though and only the second time he'd been put down we should also not forget Linares has been stopped 4 times now.

Wouldn't fancy Loma to go to a much higher weight I think the Crawford fight could be a step to far.

 

People seem to believe Linares was landing at a high rate. I saw a lot landing on arms and gloves. His blocking was as elite as the rest of his talents on Saturday

 

That was my criticism of Linares, I felt that his work rate was much lower than in previous fights. Obviously it’s easy saying that because hitting Loma is like trying to nail down water, but I felt that he could have let his hands go more. He didn’t do as much work against Campbell either. He appears to be on the slide imo but he’s had a very long career so it’s only natural.

I think Garcia would have stopped Linares earlier if he had been in the other corner on Saturday night!

 

I felt the same. he didn't throw enough of his trademark combinations. as you say, thats easier said than done against Lomachenko, but he should have started earlier. imagine if he fought earlier in the fight like he did in round 9, could've been a different fight

 

I’m excited to know who Loma is going to face next. Hopefully it’s Garcia. I rate Garcia massively. He is brilliant with his range and distance, picking off his opponents with the jab and breaking them down. Thing is though, Loma does not allow his opponent to set their feet and build any momentum with the jab.

With his history with winning WBO belts, I wonder if he might target the winner of Flanagan v Hooker in an attempt to become a 4 weight world champion...

 

hes fighting Beltran on August 25th and Garcia is fighting Easter Jr in July. if they can get a fight for the undisputed title, that would make it so much better.

Personally, I think Garcia is an opponent with a style made for Loma, I would love to see how Loma fairs against his timing and accuracy though. I'd have thought that is a route they'd look to go down. with Loma wanting to fight in London, im sure they could do it at the O2

Linares has a longer reach than Mikey. I think Mikey's style is better for Lomachenko. Mikey picked Linares to beat Lomachenko. I had Lomachenko winning every round except the the 6th because of the flash knockdown, Lomachenko was winning that round also, it could have been scored 10-9 instead of 10 - 8 actually. However, Oscar owned the judges as usual......................the judges were a disgrace, I agree with Teddy Atlas, plus Teddy got it right when he predicted a 10th round stoppage for Lomachenko..........................I expected Lomachenko wto win by UD, but by knockout and to the body?! Awesome!!!!!!!
