I favored Lopez the first time around and still do in case of a rematch, Loma is old and he's gotta go in with a very solid plan to beat Lopez, no spending six rounds downloading.
Lomas competition is pretty amazing. He has beaten names and ranked dudes across divisions. But the biggest on paper brute he faced, a guy that wasn't moving up divisions, took him down in textbook ease. I get it was close on the cards. It was. But it just as true was textbook ease. Seldom before such decisive rounds in such a close skill matchup on such a stage (you can't say Lopez had the disadvantage to his opponent in such stages). Easiest punches to take are the ones you take when you know you're ahead. Lopez lost a few late. He could have been afraid of hometown promotional cooking. And then the 12th round happened and Lomo fanboys dropped their jaws quivering. It happened. We've all dealt with our heroes getting dethroned (just not all of us anointed our heroes as Gods first, lots of backpedaling to regain some face). This goes back to over a decade of Lomos arrival that time tells all and that reflection takes years after the fact. You observe patterns and things you've seen before. Or, you can choose not to.
the signs were there. i got labeled a hater cause i pointed them out, even though i was a fan and part of the hype train. hes very talented and looks amazing when allowed to do what he does. pointed out way back then that all you needed to do was pivot with him, keep him in front of you, and thats half his game. and that mikey would have worked him had the fight happened. i wasnt hating, i was describing what i saw. full disclosure, i didnt think it would be teo to pull off what i knew was doable. didnt think the kid was that good.
If you wish to see textbook ease dethroning, watch Foreman vs Frazier I. Yeah and this is normal thing. Lopez too does have fanboys who are thinking that he is something unique. Lopez is like Loma, difference that he will be dethroned via stoppage. I know I will see Lopez fanboys posts with excuses when he will get KOed and it WILL happen. These boxers, heroes changes, this is normal thing, nothing unusual. I think Loma had and does have beautiful career, belts and HOF, ATG and 0 in fights records are nothing worth. $ is everything. Yeah, Lopez fanboys think that he is something special, he is not, like Loma he is beatable and he will lost fight. Sooner or later. Also yeah, I do not wish to see Loma vs Lopez II. Lopez most likely will win via decision again. This does not change reality: Lopez is nothing special. To get best paychecks you should be very big name ( Lopez isn't ) or at least have belts to put on line. Ofc Loma's paychecks if he does not have belt will be lower, nothing wrong, still not bad cos he today is more well known than Lopez. Lopez will be forced to move up or/ and fight vs enough money bringing names to get more $. Sooner or later it will end with lost fight.
There's a reason Lopez and Salido gave him issues. Lomachenko is somewhat vulnerable when he's getting his work smothered. It was clear as day against Salido and he had problems with Lopez in round 12. Im not referring to when Lopez hurt him, im referring to when Lopez continously swapped hands with him and didn't let him have his way in the pocket. He did this and made Loma reset every time. It wasn't just the Lopez and Salido fights where i saw this, it was also noticeable in the Linares fight. I'll say though, Lomachenko is an ATG level fighter H2H. He'd give every past LW great not named Whitaker, De La Hoya, Mosley and Duran a hard night
Nope, the division has a very rich history and Lomachenko hasn't shown something special at 135 yet, his wins over Linares and Campbell didn't hold up too well although Linares fared a lot better than Campbell. He needs to do a lot more to be considered as a H2H monster at LW, his 126 and 130 exploits have withstood better. Russell Jr, Walters and Rigo are very good names and Lomachenko made them look ordinary.
