I think Loma has the best footwork in boxing and looks great, but if he wants to be the best, he's got to add a few more dimensions to his game. Loma has to seamlessly switch from southpaw to orthodox so he can use more defensive footwork. His offense is top notch, but like he said, defense needs to be a priority. Honestly, in terms of his ability, he's one of the best I've seen, but until he learns to implement this, he'll never live up to his potential. Loma also has to use and learn more wrestling tactics. I like Loma, but he should definitely work to improve the not getting hit aspect of his game, no matter how good his offense is. Also, fighting more on the outside would give him more countering opportunities, especially if he can seamlessly switch stances. This is one of the reasons why Crawford is doing so well. It's because of his ability to switch between stances when he sees opportunities. Look at how Jacobs used it effectively against GGG.
I agree fully. He is naturally right handed, he converted to southpaw. I'd love to see him switch between the two. Also, you're definitely correct there, I'd like to see him use dirty fighting to make him genuinely invincible. He won a wrestling tournament as a kid. Evander Holyfield and Andre Ward utilise dirty fighting, Loma shouldn't feel he's immune to it's advantages. Right now, Loma is on the cusp on invincible, but needs the latter point to be genuinely invincible (the genuine TBE) IMO.
Lomachenko needs to watch some videos of Willy Pep to be honest. That's who I was thinking of when I thought Loma. People, don't realize this, but Pep was also an offensive powerhouse. He used his defense to set up his offense. Loma has great offense too, and at times you should use offense as defense, but to be among the greatest fighters of all time, he needs to learn to use both seamlessly because he has the physical talent. When is the last time you saw a guy use footwork like Loma?
So Mikey plays it safe carefully walking down Broner behind his jab, and then gets hyper defensive after he gets tagged late. Crawford and Postol fight on near even terms for 3 or 4 rounds, Bud drops Postol twice, then because he's up on the scorecards decides to haul ass the rest of the fight content with winning on points. Both masterclasses. Lomachenko savagely beats down and stops a fairly aggressive come forward destroyer who Walters played it very safe with and Valdez debatably lost to, by becoming a very aggressive come forward destroyer. He had Marriaga in retreat from the opening bell terrified and covering up, Loma just happened to get tagged one or two times clean because he wanted to put on a dazzling show for the fans, and he could improve?
Yeah and Michelangelo could have tweaked a few things here and there in his work too. Jk I'm sure Loma along with his dad will make adjustments. Imagine Vasyl on that Mosey, Jones Jr or Berto supplementation. They'd try to outlaw him.
Doing all those phenomenological things while riding a unicycle and talking on his cellphone would be a slight improvement.
Any boxer can improve theoretically as no one is perfect, but Loma is about as complete a package as they come. Last night he was much more aggressive than he usually is because, as CST said, he was trying to put a show on for the fans. He was trying a little too much to be impressive, imo, which is why he was caught with a couple of punches and marked up a bit. Overall it was mission accomplished though. He was impressive and he beat the brakes off a guy who was trying his best not to give him anything to work with. He didn't coast, he destroyed. It's just that a relaxed, more defensive Loma is even better than an aggressive one which is what I think we'll see more of in his fights to come.
