I want to see him fulfill his potential. I recognize the talent, but the fact is, the guys today don't have the skill of the guys from the past. The more weapons you bring, the better, if you know when to use them.
Yep, sports evolve and athletes get better in every sport. Apart from boxing of course, I don't know why but the guys in 1910 were far superior. Could go 174 rounds then do backflips for 30 minutes straight.
Their tactics were superior. There was a larger competition pool and more cream that rose to the top. Take a look at some of the old greats and you'll see the way they set up punches. How else do you go 62 wins before your first loss and another 72 wins before the next loss. Do you have any idea how much of a combination of talent, smarts, heart it would take to go that many fights without meeting someone that can whup your ass? Just think about it. And back then a lot of people knew how to box. Boxing's isn't just getting in great shape and throwing your hands out there. There is more to it than that. Do you argue that more weapons is worse, especially if you practice those weapons in situations where they would be effective? If you think Loma is perfect, I guess you'll be really shocked when he finally does lose.
I don't know what more you could expect honestly, so what Marriaga landed a few shots on him, it is Boxing, no one escapes completely unscathed.
Switching stances is what got Jacobs knocked down... He switched because he was getting lit up by jabs and thought it would be easier to defend from that position, but all he did was trade a jabs for straight rights. Switching stances is often not a good thing. You're more effective doing it the way you've been training. Crawford is ambidextrous and is not the norm. Wrestling is illegal. Should he also start to hit his opponents low? That is also effective...
Willie Pep had his Sandy Saddler nemesis. Most of the fighters at that weight are Hispanic / Asian types that use today's styles of fan pleasing, wade-in and slug it out. To beat Loma, you are going to either have to create a mirror image style to his, or put some "heavy-stuff' on his body and chin.
Lomachenko is the most skilled boxer in the world today, by far!!! He wants to fight the best out there, wants to unify at 130, wants to fight Mikey Garcia who last fought at 140lbs. Wants to fight Rigo, but Rigo will not fight him and tried to get Salido into a ring, but Salido refuses to fight him. Salido was supposed to fight Lomachanko in ESPN for $750,000, but turned it down.........................What more could you ever ask for in a fighter? Void was defensive only, Lomachenko is both defensive and offensive........................angles, very fast feet, head movement, in shape, he stopped Walters, he easily beat Russell, what more can be asked. Notice that the Lomachenko haters say he won't fight anyone, yet they claim Wilder is the greatest heavyweight in boxing history! What a sick joke!
