Vasyl and his Father Anatoly have given some brief statements post Olympics and i'll summarize what they said.

Regarding the judging at the Olympics and Vasyl's performance

    - He says that his fights in Beijing were much more interesting due to the judging having been different. The judging at London was upredictable and not always fair with Ukrainian boxers. After what happened to Khytrov it changed their mindset and their main objective became not giving the judges the oppertunity to score points for their opponents, they couldn't worry about how pleasing they looked in the ring.

    - He says after the round he would go to his corner, his Father would tell him the score and it would be completely different from his impression of what happened in the round and what he thought the scores should be. That type of judging is restricting for boxers, at least for him.

    - In the finals against the Korean he built up a 5 point lead after the first (fighting quite aggressive) and when the second round started he was confident that his opponent would start fighting like he wanted to win and push the action. Instead he just sat back waiting as if Lomachenko was the one who needed to make up points. Vasyl didn't understand what the Korean was wating for, if he thought that Vasyl was going to rush in and needlessly give him oppertunities to score punches on him he was wrong, that wasn't going to happen.

*** When talking about the judging and how it effected his performance in the ring he sounded kind of disappointed and frustrated***

    * This info comes from two seperate interviews where he discussed similar things regarding the judging and how it effected the Ukrainian boxers tactics and style of fighting*

Anatoly Lomachenko also gave a statement when asked if the Ukrainian boxers (Lomachenko, Berinchyk, Usyk, Gvozdyk, Shelestyuk) are going to APB

    - Nobody is going anywhere. The boxers signed a letter of intent. They'll listen to AIBA's offer but its a new endeavour and they don't know all the details yet. If there is a shared professional Championship then that's interesting, if it's only the AIBA Championship then it's a different story. They'll consider AIBA's proposal and then proposals from others.

    * Khytrov wasn't listed when mentioning the boxers who signed this letter of intent*

    My thoughts :

Considering what Anatoly said it gives me the impression that AIBA's press release during the Olympics was misleading on purpose. They're trying to generate interest and gain attention for their venture but misrepresenting the nature of these "signings" on purpose would fit with their modus operandi I.E. trying to sign boxers during the Olympics and act as promoter and governing body which is an obvious conflict of interest. In general AIBA seems rather unethical.

From all the information about the APB available it sounds like APB boxers will only fight other APB boxers and they won't be able to fight for regular Pro World Championships. APB boxers fighting non-APB boxers and fighting for legit world titles would seem to undermine the entire notion of the APB and what AIBA is trying to do. If that's the case then it doesn't sound like Anatoly would have any interest in it.

It appears Khytrov has avoided all of this completely which i'm glad to hear. I would be very excitied to see him turn pro and think he would have alot of success.

Good to hear. AIBA can't compete with the offers from the big promotional companies, at the very least the fighters should hear them out before making some stupid long term commitment to AIBA.

There was a letter from the AIBA head Wu, last year I think, where they detailed their intent with APB. It is to take over pro boxing completely and shut out everyone else. they don't intend to allow their fighters to fight anyone else, the reasons being, most likely, the poor regulations of pro boxing.

I've read a couple of Wu's letters and I get the impression that he is a slimy, powerhungry, *******. I don't think APB will achieve much and I'm not sure they will be better than anyone else.

I don't know why K2 don't sign him up. With the Klitschko's career coming to an end now is the time to develop another global superstar. TBH they should sign all of Dychko, Lomachenko and Usyk for this reason. They have nobody on their books bar themselves who has that type of potential.

Thanks for this Vystotsky, this is the best news I've heard in a while and was interesting to hear his thoughts on the scoring :thumbsup

Thanks for posting. Interesting to hear Lomachenko and others actually changed their fighting style due to the judging. I assume this was to avoid exchanges where the scoring would be more open to *ahem* 'interpretation'. There was some appalling scorecards at the Olympics, but I didn't notice any particularly bad ones in Lomachenko's fights.

I agree with the suggestion that he signs with K2. Put him on Klitschko undercards as the chief support, and on shows in the Ukraine where I'm sure he'd attract big crowds. When Vitali retires they can put him on cards with Golovkin.

Before the Olympics Lomachenko said he wanted to fight in the US because that's where the best compitition is which is true since most top guys in his weight range are from the Americas or Asia. If K2 couldn't get fights and tv deals in the US then it seems unlikely.

Before the Olympics Usyk talked about all them signing with the same promoter but what would be good for Lomachenko seems like it wouldn't be for Usyk. Fighting in the US would be career suicide for him. Even Cunningham who had a belt and was widely regarded as the #1 CW for a few years couldn't get on US tv and eventually signed with Sauerland and fought in Germany. If Usyk, Gvozdyk, and Khytrov go pro K2 could be good for them imo.

I thought Universum was on ther verge of death with no TV contracts? Top Rank has done such a great job with Korobov....

Good news but I would rather want him to in the US than signing with K2 and fight some bums to pad his record he should fight the big names in the US as soon as possible

You are right that the best competition is based in the US, but I'd worry that Lomachenko wouldn't get the opportunities he deserves Stateside. The TV networks and US promoters seem to have little interest in Eastern European fighters. Guys like Golovkin and Pirog have struggled to get dates on American soil, despite their talents and exciting styles.
