    Inspired by Mcveys thread.

How do you think lomachenko would do in the past against great fighter such as Canzoneri etc? With different rules and higher activity?

He's something to behold, but considering that era and specifically that weight range contains perhaps the deepest talent pool in history and the best fights being made weren't limited as much by promoters beef and greed, its tough to say.

My guess is he would do well. Win most, lose some, just as all the other standouts did.

I believe Loma does things in a ring that have never been seen before which would be a big problem for guys back in the 30`s.

Canzoneri was more unique than Loma, and a lot more experienced, and he still had trouble with standouts like Ross and Mclarnin.

I like Loma, but saying he does things never seen before is totally ridiculous. Orlando Canizales had a similar style to Loma years ago.

Loma would never have struggled against a fighter of Billy Hardy`s talent like Canizales did in their first bout, their footwork was similar but I feel Loma is far better overall than Orlando ever was.

Oi, you edited your original comment after my response. Sneaky.

Also, I wasn't talking about class, but about boxing technique and ability. You said lomachenko does things never before seen, which fighters like Canizales clearly disprove.

I think Loma is elite, and would prove to be elite in just about any era. Not sure he goes through them unbeaten, but then again he has not gone through this era unbeaten (although I did have him winning that fight TBH).

Don’t expect much suppprt to endorse this in classic, and TBF Loma has his share of detractors in general as well. I am of the mind that “most” greats will find a way to be great in any era they were placed in. The cream always rises to the top, but again many will see it differently.

Loma’s speed, power and technical skills will see him be competitive with just about anyone...throw in his foot work, placement timing and unique use of angles and he will beat just about anyone of a similar size. I don’t find anyone unbeatable....but in a fight I wouldn’t bet a dime against Loma against anyone of a similar size.

He should do well in any era.

His main issues in the 30s, are that he would have to go through the usual management lottery in his early career, would be matched hard early on, and would have to take fights under very unfavorable circumstances.

His ethnicity would not help him either.

I agree with this but would expand it beyond the 30’s although that is the context of this thread. Loma is going to be a nightmare for anyone from any era

What even is this comment section

Armstrong dismantles him brutally, McLarin beats him, Ross beats him. Besides that Loma would find success, would be a great contender and possibly a lightweight champ for a short while (when Ross and Armstrong are out of the way ofc)

Stop overvaluing Loma, he's a great fighter in the current weak division but he's yet to beat any great opposition like Garcia or Crawford, he's a good swarmer with tricky angles and handspeed. I'd bet the barn on Armstrong versus him

TBH that's sorta how I feel.
Loma's a great talent and very skilled , but hasn't fought anyone of note in comparison.
I think Armstrong and Canzoneri would be bad match ups stylistically.

Loma has had limited fights overall but especially at LW. Lineras is among my favorite modern non Philly fighters so I have respect for him and think Loma’s win there above what I think is his optimal division...I still like him at SFW but the big fights are higher up. Hard to pull from a vast array of his fights but off of what we have seen who would beat him easily? Or even comfortably over 12

Oh man Loma would do just fine I mean he is the greatest amateur boxer thats ever been past or present. 396-1 that is a stellar record bar none. With that taken into consideration seeing his pro transition i'd say he would do just fine. Would he lose some of course but he would win more than he lost for sure!
