I wonder why UFC has crushed boxing in recent years. Your comment pretty much hits the nail on the head I think.
I tend to agree with your position, EXCEPT........ Loma did not get a title shot after beating a NOBODY. He beat the WBO International FW Champion. And he was the first to stop him. Now, Ramirez was considered largely a can crusher. And he was, but he won a legitimate title from a legitimate titlist in Bautista. And he did it in his backyard. I just think the cards were largely stacked against Lomachenko. The judges all had history of scoring for agression, which goes against a slickster like Loma.....the fighter he was fighting is generally considered a tough out, for anybody 125-135, and referee Laurence Cole.....well, let's just say he's either incompetent, corrupt, or some combination of both.:rofl
And to his credit...... Lomachenko was holding and maneuvering to reduce the likelihood of headbutting in close quarters. This however caused Loma to be widely open to body punching, and MOST of the early body punching was legal. It was only after the 5th or 6th rd, when Loma began to get into the fight and as Salidos punches began dropping, that Loma was getting fouled excessively. I still scored the fight 6-6 and I thought that Lomachenko dominated the 12th enough to score it 10-8 since Salido did nothing but clinch, hold, and cling for dear life. Loma was purely the aggressor from the 10th on, and IMO.......had he began earlier in the fight, he'd had stopped Salido between 6-8 rds. And immediate rematch would tell a completely different tale. Though I tend to think the WBO and Salido want no part of that.:think
@Overhill He'd say that after that fight he questioned his entire career and comtemplated if he should ever even fight again. In fact he retired after the 2nd Golata fight, not saying it was entirely due to the low blows, but he certainly questioned his desire to fight again.
It was a ploy by the old jew, to get Lomachenko to be a little more agreeable. He saw what happened when Mayweather got away with his 0 intact, he wants a star, but a star he can manipulate, like Pac.
@Peril Never really factored in Arum as being in on it, but you do make a good point, and in hindsight, as a few posters in this thread have stated, the venue of this fight, the ref, the panel of judges and the location, could very well point to a set up. This is boxing and I do love this sport, but I'm not so blind that I believe everything this sport tells me (why would anybody).
butthurt is strong in this thread... lomo was a holding little *****. another hype train derailed, thank god.
Sounds like this hype always takes short cuts. The 10oz gloves were open handed. meaning, he couldn't make a fist. Not exactly Pro gear. When he fights one of the elites, we'll get to see how effective all these short cuts have been.
He lost. Deal with it. There's no controversy, no one was against him, he fought like a child for all but 2 rounds, looked like the rookie that he is, that is all
The real Mockery is how does a promoter get a fighter who has only ONE pro fight a Shot at a world title? Regardless of his talent and Amateur pedigree how does that Happen ?!?!
open handed??? wtf are u talking about? have you ever worn a pair of top ten brand gloves??? i have. believe me when i say you can make a full on fist with those gloves. the only difference between them and the gloves he wore for his last two fights is the distribution of the foam padding. but again...let me put on a pair of top ten 10oz gloves and a pair of 10oz grants or everlast or any other glove...and u let me know if u can feel the difference. he just fought an elite and lost a split decision. he finished stronger than the guy who has been in more championship fights. short cuts?
i'm guessing all u guys shitting on him for getting a title shot in his 8th pro fight are new to the sport of boxing.
It happens because Lomachenko only signed a contract with Top Rank because they could get him a title fight this early in his career. It happens because Lomachenko's 1 win got him ranked at #5 by the WBO at 126lbs. It happens because for what ever reason, the promoters of #1-4 didn't get that fight for their fighters. It happens because Salido willingly signed the contract to fight. It happens because the WBO sanctioned the fight. I don't understand what the problem is.
