Loma can be roughed up in a fight. He has no consistent jab and inside game, and imo he has no straight left hand. Everything Loma does is based off of his speed and balance. I've seen many a Loma in the ring impress a lot of fans until they have to fight a real fight. And when Salido brought the fight, there was no showboating from Loma. He clearly lost. Say what you want about who licks rounds off of Bud, but he adjusts, and he clearly wins. And none of his fights have been close. Loma beating Rigo was a sham victory. And Rigo was always overrated in my book anyway.
A Nobody is saying that because you lose you can't be pfp best. Willie, when talking about Loma and Bud, that is the difference between the two. Losing is part of the sport. I say that in many of my posts. Guys talk about an anomalie like Floyd and belittle the fact that he went undefeated or that his fans put so much stock in Floyds "0". You don't discredit a guy who hasn't lost and Floyd fought up until he was how old? I've seen many fighters lose and become pfp best. That isn't the point. Between Bud and Loma, we can go back and forth between the resume and skill of the two. But the deciding factor to ME is who won and who lost. But lol, i do think that Bud has more skill lol.
There was no showboating from Loma because it was his second professional match against a guy that usually drags his opponents to hell and back, even if they manage to get the win, and for the record, Loma finished stronger and won the majority of the last six rounds. Not sure if Crawford could have adjusted that well in his second pro match, after all, it took Crawford 19 matches before he got in there with someone with a light pulse in Prescott, who on his best day isn't anywhere near Salido's level, aside from a fluke KO of Khan, his career is completely unremarkable.
Lomachenko is more skilled in certain areas, and old Rigs is more skilled in certain areas. It's easy to say that the young, bigger, prime fighter is more skilled, but when you look at it, even though Lomachenko is in his prime, he's not outskilling Rigs in every area. Rigondeaux's defense is still better than Lomachenko's even though he is old. Rigondeaux is more skilled at slipping punches. He's still a better counter puncher in my opinion, and Rigondeaux has a better left hand than Lomachenko. Lomachenko is more dynamic offensively, he utilizes a wider array of punches, and his jab is better than Rigondeaux's jab. Lomachenko's legs are younger, so when matched together, he controlled distance much better than the 37 year old. Loma's reaction times were better, that is a skill that comes with youth and staying busy. Rigondeaux has comparatively more power though. He's a more skilled puncher. People ridicule Rigondeaux' style, and claim others are more skilled, but if you made Lomachenko or Crawford only use a pawing jab, and straight left hand, against opponents that were always taller and more massive than they were, they both would have multiple losses. Between the three, I'd say Crawford is the least skilled, yet most dynamic if that makes sense.
I can’t argue against a case for Bud. But factoring all the metrics that are used to measure who ranks as the bes p4p, I think it’s a tight race. Crawford’s been a pro twice as long and has 3 times as many fights....but Loma in just over 4 years as a pro and under a dozen fights has faced 5 world champions....3 of those world champions have been undefeated and 2 have been undefeated & p4p ranked. Of course you have to look at overall performances and the fact Loma has a loss...but they level of dominance since has been nothing short of remarkable. 4 fighters in a row quitting on their stool has never been done before at this level. Bud’s a unified champion at 140....a feat that hasn’t been accomplished in the division since Ricky Hatton did it 8 years ago. So there’s elements that support both boxers having a strong claim for the p4p title. It’s almost a quantity vs quality debate.
Loma lost and he clearly lost in my book. And we will never know how any boxer would've done against a Salido in their 2nd pro fight. There are many who could've beaten Salido in the 2nd pro fight. That's just not the path that they go. Loma and his people gambled and lost. That can be done with almost any fighter in the history of the sport when talking about fighting a tough guy like Salido in their 2nd fight. They took the fight and lost. The path that fighters take is their path in terms of when they up their comp. What Bud has done is the norm. Loma and his people made the decision to fight Salido in their 2nd pro fight and lost. Salido was an experienced fighter who had lost to everyone he faced when he had to elevate his game. He had been in a few wars and was supposed to be a guy that Loma was supposed to beat lets be real. That's why he was picked. Other than beating JuanMa, Salido had not beaten anyone considered elite-if you consider JuanMa elite which i never did.
When you've made 4 fighters quit, it's either time to raise your comp or look at the circumstances going into those fights. That isn't impressive to me.
It’s not like Loma is taking on low level, light touches with losing records which is exactly what guys with 11 pro fights typically feast on. If you look at guys like Manny, Mayweather even guys like Crawford and Spence....their first dozen opponents all had losing records or little to no professional experience. From that scope, Loma has been facing opponents who are the kind of opposition guys with 25 or 30 professional bouts would be facing a decade into their careers. Their are always “circumstances” surrounding every fight, yet not every boxer is capable of making grown men on an elite level say “no mas”. That’s usually the last thing boxers want to be associated with....quitting has a stigma in this sport that have career ending implications so most boxers would rather fall on their shield, go out on their back or have the ref save them from enduring any additional punishment vs quitting on their stools.
As much as I like Bud, I think you’re being unreasonable with respect to Loma. You can’t blame him for making 4 fighters quit and say he needs to up his competition. Rememeber, Walters was undefeated before he bowed out.
Naw I would say he feels the same way because prior to the Rigo fight he said it does nothing for him due to the size advantage. So it’s safe to say he believes TC is still the number 1 pof best
