Lomachenko should have fought John in his first pro fight

No, not really at all. But I can see I ruffled a few feathers by simply disagreeing.

This thread was about some odd myth that beating the shell of Chris John would propel Loma to heights he's not yet reached, isn't that it?

And that since he had a lengthy amateur career, what he did is 'normal'. Yeah?

You guys need to just chill a little. No one here is exactly right or wrong, since this is all and opinion based discussion.

Would John have fought Loma though? No one wants to be the guy that lost his title to a fighter on his debut.

Did I? Or did I just reply to smokinggun's post in accordance to what he said? I certainly wasn't the one who changed a subject now. But if you want to hate me now, and join forces with others, then so be it. I'll reply respectfully to you regaardless, even in disagreement. :):

I just don't agree that Lomo's career couldn't have been done better. Like I already said, Lomo is the one with a stated purpose. He wants to be the very best of the best and has made that clear plenty of times.

Like I said, we're talking about ONE fight. So trying to judge his career because he fought Salido, rather than a shell of Chris John, is a little erroneous because Loma's career will be properly looked at when he retires.

If he continues this pace he's at. Beating top fighters in the manner he is (hypothetically speaking of course), winning more championships, in the end, you think some will look back and say, "Yeah, it's impressive. But he SHOULD have fought Chris John first instead." Loma has already defeated fighters BETTER then the version of Chris John he could have faced.

I'm hoping reading that aloud will realize that sounds a little silly. :)

I would have settled for plenty of fighters besides Ramirez or whoever he actually did fight in his debut. Like I said, he's had several fights where it's kind of like "What's the point?" and he's a literal statistical 100 to 1 favorite. His legendary skill and prowess was well known even before he even had a single professional round, I still can't help but think he's spun his wheels at times, if he is indeed looking to go down as a legitimately great, legendary fighter.

Well....lets just reconvene the discussion of Loma's greatness when he retires. There's absolutely no point is trying to make judgment this early.

But out of curiosity, who should Rigondeaux faced for his first (or first 10) fights, since they were all much worse than Chris John as well? I find it odd no one has ever criticized his path.

Calm down child. Big Ukranian is not criticizing Lomachenko at all. He was just saying the John path would have gave him an unbreakable record.

How many fights do you think Lomo is going to have in his career...? 40ish? He's already +10 in. We've already seen a chunk of it.

Rigo pissed away his best years with weak match making as well, sprinkled in with a solid win here and there. That's just my opinion though.

Guessing he'll max out at about 20-23. But being more active (and hopefully injury free), 25ish? But that's likely pushing it

You are right about Rigo. He took a few fights that were big steps back. And didn't capitalize well off the donaire win. Of course, his style didn't help w/ fans or networks. He showed when he lets his hands go, he could be more exciting. Just didn't do it enough.
