Lomachenko - the most overrated in professional boxing?

Not doubting his amateur credentials obviously, but people make it sound he likes some sort of unstoppable machine who can't be beat.

Breaking news, he already has been.

Sure, Salido came in overweight, but if he was half the fighter people claim him to be, he would have boxed the head off of Salido instead of dropping a SD, second pro bout or not.

Because he's Eastern European he's already a top 5 ATG according to the people in this forum

Then don't allow Salido to close the distance and fight inside. If he was as good and intelligent as most on here seem to think, then he could have done that and controlled the fight from a distance. Didn't see someone like Floyd getting hit with that many low blows because he could control a fight.

    1. Lomachenko was point-scoring in an amateur way, thinking he won the fight. (Now he admitted he realises he needs to throw more punches to make it look like he's scoring points, and use effective aggression).

    2. Lomachenko was pacing himself too much, being stressy about being able to go 12 rounds rather than going gung-ho.

    3. Salido scored around 110 shots, 80 being body shots. Around 35 of them were counted to be low-blows, many of which were obviously counted as you can't penalise Salido for them if the referee doesn't.

    4. Salido used low-blows to set up other shots, and also effective aggression.

    5. I had Lomachenko winning 115-113 despite all of this. Salido is the ultimate stylistic nightmare for Lomachenko anyway.

It all adds up. It was a farce of a fight.

Nothing to do with that, I don't like Floyd, I'm glad he's retired. But Vasa has done nothing in the pro ranks yet but people cream themselves like he's the second coming

I am a big Loma fan but there is an element of truth to what you are saying. However calling him the most overrated in the pros is very short sighted.

No. Lomachenko is regarded as a special boxer capable of great things, and he is everything people claim he is. Salido came in a welterweight and still had to cheat to even make the fight close.

Too many factors regarding Salido fight: only 2nd professional bout, different weight division, pure referee performance and absurd number of low blows by Mexican, first 12 round fight (given the 12th round itself). You can't disregard all that.

Plus, the fact that Loma came back from the loss and confidently outclassed Garry Russel Jr, who himself is a very good fighter, should fully rehabilitate him in our eyes. Though, I do agree that people may overrate him by meantioning that he's already somewhere in p4p list. Anyway, he definetely has a lot of talent and you can't deny that.

Just because he's Eastern European there are those chomping at the bit to discredit him on this forum.

He has the potential to be ATG top5, noone claims he already is. Not in the pro rankings at least.

    He has one good win.

Yes, he is overrated. Obviously he has skills and a great amateur record but it comes down to who you fight and how the fight plays out. Thus far, there are a hundred other fighters more worthy of discussion and praise.
