This is an exhibition really, a chance to see the great Lomachenko in the UK. Can't complain though, Crolla has earned his right, and who else is there for Loma to fight at the weight? He'll likely hold 3 of the belts by then, only other choice is up a weight but sure light-welter is occupied with WSS.
Lomachenko isn't the youngest, at 31, so if he's in his prime, how long is that going to last? So assuming he'll fight twice a year, this feels like a bit of a waste of a fight for Lomachenko to be having at this time. It's his mandatory challenger, so not criticising him, and if anybody deserves an "easy" defence it's him. If it all goes to plan he'll have just fought two unification matches in a row after beating Linares. Just underwhelmed by the Crolla fight from a selfish point of view.
Lomachenko-Crolla could sell out the MEN. Believe it or not, but Matchroom casuals know a lot about Lomachenko. They use Lomachenko's name when trying to act intelligent in front of their other Matchroom casual friends.
Corolla would get embarrassed Clinton woods vs Roy Jones jr style I hope this doesn’t happen I’d prefer to watch Corolla vs ritson tbh
There are similarities, but I don't think it's any reason for the level of hating Crolla seems to be getting. Fighters like RJJ and Loma are just so good, they make world level operators look like clubfighters. RJJ was given hell for fighting Woods, far more so than any of the American contenders he fought. But Woods had a better career at light heavy than the likes of Richard Frazier, Telesco, Richard Hall, Harmon, Glen Kelly, Julio Gonzalez. Wins over Crawford Ashley, Ole Klemetson, Demetrius Jenkin, Rico Hoye, Glen Johnson and Gonzalez himself twice, together with four successful IBF title defences are not to be sniffed at. Same applies to Crolla, former world champ with wins over Gavin Rees, John Murray, Perez, Barroso, Burns and Yordan. Ranked 4 by Ring, 7 by Boxing Monthly and 6 by Boxing News. Yeah, he's got no chance but is he any worse a world title opponent than Suriya Tatakhun, Gamalier Rodriguez, Romulo Koasicha, Roman Martinez, Sosa, Marriaga or Pedraza? Loma has to fight someone and there aren't too many more proven contenders out there. I'd rather see Loma-Mikey Garcia, but Garcia is fighting Spence up at welter.
Oh yeah that's a dream fight, hopefully Garcia makes a good account of himself against Spence Jr (can't see Garcia winning, I think the size will be too noticeable) and can still maintain enough interest at Lightweight. That said, if they ever do fight I have a feeling it would be at light welter
No complaints. As some have said, Crolla has earned his shot. He will be a big underdog (deservedly so) but will give it a good go before likely being stopped. There's not many more fights currently at the weight for Loma, and it's a mandatory. I'm just excited at the prospect of potentially seeing Loma live.
At least if Loma was fighting Campbell you could say well he’s fighting someone with arguably similar handspeed and a bigger (not that would mean anything vs Loma) but it’s certainly more competitive than Crolla.
And, if course, people will buy it. Agree with some others. Would love to see the Campbell vs Loma fight. I’d Like to see Crolla go into some entertaining domestic fights. Obviously he’s going to go where the money is, so fair enough.
Good chance Crolla is living up to his million dolla' nickname then. Who saw that coming back in 2012?!
"3 world title fights" Lomachenko vs Crolla Katie Taylor vs some cross fit instructor Manlet TJ Doheny vs some Asian fella who's named after his gym
