Great work as usual. However I would very much contest the statement about Andre Ward being the most talented boxer, even he says he is not close to being the most talented but his work ethic and determination brought him where he is.
Thank you! And fair enough. I know a lot of people disagree with me regarding Ward. When I said "most talented" I didn't really mean in a "raw" talent sense, but more as a complete package beyond skills, which included work ethic, determination, ring IQ, etc. The whole package. Even there, though, I realize a lot of people would still disagree with me. And even though I view Ward as being the most talented, he never truly solidified his claim. In fact, right when it appeared he was in the driver's seat to prove exactly that, he decided to hang up the gloves. Likewise, right now, among boxers currently competing, I believe Lomachenko is the most talented. And again, I know a lot of people would disagree with me, and just as the case with Ward, Lomachenko still hasn't really sealed the deal. Neither has Bud, and neither has GGG. Potentially, I think solidifying that claim is in reach for each of those 3 (and maybe a few others) over the next 15-24 months. But then again, all 3 of them might lose in that time frame which would further confuse the matter in the post-Floyd era. At least for me, it would! Imagine if GGG loses to Canelo, Bud loses to Horn, and Lomachenko loses his next fight. It would render this entire video completely useless.
Then I agree with you, I dislike Ward but can't fault his commitment, work ethic and intelligence in and outside the ring. I will never understand why he retired, he still had time to move to cruiser-weight and test himself vs the top talent there, but if he was to fight Usyk right now, I'd favor Usyk. For me Bud is the most likely to get a loss in the next 15-24 months closely followed by GGG. Either Terence will flourish and beat all comers at 147 or he will get beat by Spence or Keith "Run Time" Thurman if he ever recovers from his injuries, if GGG was 32 right now, I would discard any chance of him getting beat in the next 2 years, however in reality he will be 38 in 2 years, at this point he will start to decline very quickly and there will be a plethora of young talent trying to exploit his age and dethrone the King. As for Lomachenko, I can't see him getting beaten anytime soon, I think Mikey would be a lot easier than people think, he is too basic and predictable, Lomachenko is best suited to fight pure boxers and that's what Mikey is, tremendous boxer but he doesn't do anything unorthodox, Loma had 400 bouts of experience vs boxers. Lomachenko would be stupid to move up to 140, so outside of Mikey there isn't anyone who poses any threat to him between 126-135.
Great video Rummy! One thought: Which would be a better scalp? Crawford over Horn or Loma over Linares? It's interesting because even though most would see Linares as being a better boxer, Horn has by far the better victory on his resume. Tyson Fury was spot on in what he said about Linares before the fight This content is protected
I was thinking during the video that too little is made of physical ability in p4p discussions when in reality it's just as important as skills for boxing. Of the three fighters mentioned, GGG is the only one with the power to crush people like an empty beer can. That can't be overlooked. He doesn't dance like Lomachenko, but neither does Lomachenko swat like him.
Lomachenko moves up to 130 and brutally knocked out the champ without a warm up fight. Lomachenko moves up to 135 and knocks out the champ without a warm up fight. Would GGG move up to 168 and 175 and knockout the champs without a warm up fight? He couldn’t knock out Jacobs or Canelo..
Lomachenko can learn off ward If he had punched linares in the nuts and headbutted him a few times he would have had him out of there well before then 10th round. He also didnt have judge who score rounda for him even if he loses them like ward. Lomachenko could really learn the art of deck stacking from ward
I don't see the contention between the three at all, Lomahcenko is clearly no #1 based on achievements, you can have a debate about #2 between Crawford and GGG though
Not useless. I'd just bump this thread lol But yeah, very fair assessment. And clearly you think Ward's work isn't done either....
Always enjoy these as much if not more than the old HBO recap of Fight nights from the past. Lomo is a special kid and as a fan you can’t help but stay excited because he is just starting his pro career!!!! Great job Rummy (insert mojo with a smoke here)
Imagine if a solid gold meteorite landed in my backyard and I was set for life. About the same odds of that happening as all 3 losing their next fights.
I never rated Mayweather the best p4p fighter in the world at any point in this century. In retrospect I'd say the top p4p guys were as followed. 2000-DLH 2001 to 2002- Morales 2003 to 2009- Pac 2010 to 2016- Ward 2017 to present- Loma My criteria is I think a little different than Rummys for p4p. I place a massive amount of stock in competing and beating young, prime fighters in and around your weight class. I'm less interested in how popular or big name a fighter is when it comes to p4p. For example in 2010 Pacquiao stopped Koing people and looked less invincible than he had previously. Meanwhile Ward won the super 6 and eventually beat Kovalev. Therefore surpassing Pacquiao.
The post Floyd era in a p4p sense ended in 2007. That was the last time he stopped a young, hungry and talented fighter in Ricky Hatton. Then he retired and never showed much interest in the young guns at 147. Meanwhile Ward stepped up his game beating all the best young Super Middleweights.
