That goes to show what the public thought of fimo as an opponent for lomachenko. That was a big night for boxing and better yet, it was on free ESPN!

Actually ESPN is not free — you have to pay for cable (or I guess pay them directly for streaming) to get it.

But it is widely available to the public and at no extra PPV or dazn-type upcharge. (And much better offering than most PPVs and pretty much everything on dazn these days.)

Plus it has generated lots of talk among casuals.

Guy I used to talk boxing with in a state I lived before moving away was texting back and forth with me all weekend about this fight. Anecdotal but it’s an indicator considering we haven’t exchanged more than three texts in the last 18 months.

Less than 1% of Americans watched that?

Almost 3 mil is pretty good considering that the NBA finals have 6 mil and MLB had like 4 mil or so. I think it will take some good financial numbers to entice Lopez to fight Loma again.

Pandemic surely helped. People are starved for sports. If no COVID, probably half the numbers.

Good stuff, now Bob is incentivised to keep this up by giving Fury a good opponent for December. Crawford Vs Brook should do reasonably well too.
We need big fights like this more and more. Taylor vs Ramirez is the next big undisputed fight and Bob has it all taken care of thankfully. Should do great numbers.

Lopez is a pretty decent name on ESPN, he gets numerous segments just about himself on his name alone. It also helps that Top Rank signed a deal with ESPN so Teo can get as much sports publicity there as possible, especially if he keeps winning. Teo is the golden egg of Top Rank promotions.

Contrast this to Gervonta Davis who is only known for being Floyds so called "prodigy". It was cringe watching the build up to his fight with Santa Cruz. There was more of Floyd than both fighters... even so, Davis is the golden egg of TMT Promotions.

Devin Haney seems to be the most skilled of the bunch, perhaps might have a better career when all is said and done but it seems like his father is reluctant for him to step up. Golden egg of PBC promotions.

Then there's Ryan Garcia who has a small cult following on Instagram and social media despite being the least accomplished of the 4, having yet to win a world title. Perhaps the most popular out of all the 4, he's the golden egg of Golden boy promotions.

This is what PBC should have done with the Charlo brothers.
