Loma is a much more natural 130 fighter. At 135 against the bigger ATG’s he’s biting off a little more than he can chew.

But with prime Loma… anything is possible and a competitive UD win wouldn’t surprise me. But I wouldn’t bet on it. Lol :D Oscar would be about 5 inches taller and have a serious reach advantage. Plus the fight night weight advantage.

126-130 Loma is a different beast and is a H2H problem for ANYBODY in history at that weight

Loma should just fight at his natural weight. He should be at 126. He's not even really getting credit for fighting these giants

    Yup,

It's the daring fighters that keep doing this & do it for a lengthy period of time but end up getting only negative criticism without much of the credit,

In this case they should go back down & hog their natural division while reigning, i'm sure that will make everyone pleased.

De La Hoya is way too big for Loma.

Lomachenko would likely be up on the cards as he would outwork Oscar and definitely manage to land more out of the two, but he's in with someone who's just as quick, much bigger and who can paralyse a guy his size with that left hook. He'd probably bully Loma physically and use that to break him down and knock him out.

De La Hoya would be king of the world if he was around today. He'd beat all of them at 130, 135 & 140. Probably 147, too.

This is a very good point. He takes risks like no other before him coming out of the gate, moves up to 130 and then again to 135 not because he was a massive weight bully and huge for his first or second weight class but because all the other champions were shamelessly ducking or avoiding him or fights against them couldn't get made for whatever reason and he dared to be great.

And instead of dropping the belt at 135 and moving back down to a much more comfortable weight class for him (130), he opts to hang around to try to become undisputed attempting to win all the belts individually in a division full of giants who hold huge weight and reach advantages over him, outweighing him by 2 or even 3 divisions and having 3 to almost 6'' in reach on him in almost every instance. He could so easily have dropped back down and dominated 130 for ages and if he was rehdrating as much as some of his celebrated peers are weighing what he does on fight night even now he would be all the way down at 118 or 122

He doesn't get any credit from these clowns at all for doing this even though many of their multiple division champ heroes and favs jacked themselves silly with PEDs to help them bridge the gap to campaign at the higher weights

Or were massive weight bullies who were still huge or big at their second or third weight classes and weren't even undersized at even higher ones in some cases

Weakened their opponents at the negotiating table with rehdration clauses and catchweights

Would only take these risks if they had home advantage and a home ref to allow them to fight with a set of rules they penned with their own hand and three home judges to bail them out if their tag-team partner the ref wasn't able to rig the deck enough to secure them the win

Avoided legit punchers and KO artists at those weights

Or they cherrypicked stylistically favorable opponents at the higher weights before moving up or back down

Or just outright ducked ones at that weight or skipped an entire weight class

Or they turned pro in their teens or early 20s when they were still growing

This is all stuff he doesn't do

Take someone like Crawford, excellent fighter but he was gigantic for 135, huge for 140 and he's at worst facing opponents his own size at 147. He's still gulping down the liquids after weigh ins at his third weight class and has never once been at a reach advantage in any of his world title fights and he looks as big if not bigger in some cases as all these career 147 pounders he's fighting.

I've never once thought to myself any of these guys he's fighting at 147 look noticeably bigger than him, let alone two or three weight divisions bigger like all these fighters Loma has been facing at 135 do. He looks tiny compared to most of them after they've rehydrated.

Same thing with Haney. He will be lauded as a multiple weight champion if he wins belts at 140 and 147 but he won't be beating opponents bigger than him at either weight. If he weighs 5-7lbs less in the ring than the top 147 pounders do now, has a 71'' reach, and looks like Skelator on crack on the scales how much do you think he'll weigh at 140 when he moves up, let alone up to 147?

As for Oscar, he's 5'11'' and he has a 73'' reach and turned pro at 19 at 135 before winning his first title at 130. He's just way naturally bigger with a huge frame which allowed him to go all the way up to MW. Granted he was small for that weight but was he smaller for it than Loma is 135? I'm not sure he was. And yes he would rule the roost up to 147 if he were around today.

Loma is officially 5'7'' albeit he looks shorter, has a tiny 6'5½'' reach and turned pro at 126 at almost 26 y/o. When he was 18 he was competing at flyweight same day weigh ins and when he moved up to feather it was still same day weigh ins so he would been campaigning in lower or much lower weight classes in the pros had he turned over back then.

Yep, I’ve been saying this for a long time. Prime Loma is an ATG at 126. He gives up so much size at 135 but is still one of the best in boxing. Too many big name fighters today are bursting at the seams and boiling down to make their fight day weight. They could easily fight one or two divisions higher and not be small. Loma is the opposite and could compete one or two divisions lower, fighting guys his own size. I’ll miss watching Loma fight when he retires because there is no other fighter like him.

Pretty much this! I wish he’d stay at 130 and just rack up title defenses there

Looking at the size of Oscar's giant melon head these days I can't believe he was a 135lbs fighter back in the day.

Loma is a tremendous fighter and would likely be considered an ATG had he remained at 130lbs (the weight at which he was at his absolute apex with respect to power and athleticism).

At 135lbs, however, he's very good, but very good won't cut it against Oscar, who's too big, too long, and too talented at that weight.
