    HBO fights usually get about 1 million, including Loma's last couple on HBO. Doesn't ESPN have well more than three times the subscribers as HBO? Why should only 50% more on ESPN then be considered great?

    Maybe because most who tune into ESPN do so for other sports?
    Lets take it one fight at the time.
    Lets see if the numbers get better or will they just stagnate, like over at HBO.

    I think from my years as a young man following the Monday Night Wars (WWE vs WCW) a 1.5 rating equals closer to 3-3.5 million viewers.

    It seems you are right. I've just googled it and wiki says that the Nielsen rating is actually a percentage of all TV households in the United States. It is estimated to be around 304.5 million. So, 1.5% of that would be about 4.5 million.
