Yeah, I tend to agree with that and it's my reason for not being too excited about the fight. If they were more evenly matched in size I would be hyped to the max.
Any weight below 130 can be for a 130 lb title. There could've been a catchweight agreement. But in this case there's not. Which is how it should be! Loma will have the size advantage but if Rigo wins he'll get full credit and Loma will have no excuses
This is the true p4p fight! Rigo has a chance at greatness. Loma will be looked at as a weight bully by some, but really he's taking a high risk low reward match for the challenge and the recognition that beating someone of Rigo's class at least should bring. My prediction at this point is Rigo's defence is too good to get hit cleanly much or stopped, he flusters Loma and wins rounds, it's back and forth with a lot of subtle tactical shifts, but Loma's activity and strength and resourcefulness carries the fight and gets him the close rounds, and takes something like an 8-4 contest. Even with the size advantage Loma should get the highest credit if he stops him, because he'd have to land cleanly or repeatedly on a guy who is so hard to touch. I think with Rigo's skill it's sure no mismatch, but the size advantage is clear and in Loma's ability to take Rigo's power, and that Rigo won't be able to get Loma's attention and take the play away. We're going to get outstanding boxing, I don't care if Loma's 10+ lbs bigger. I like the understated poster and promotion title, if that's what they're going with: "Loma vs Rigo". Real boxing fans know, we don't need superlatives to convince the brutes who don't need to know.
If Rigo wins this despite being realistically 3 weight classes lower and in his 40s, it would rank as one of the greatest wins of all time. Questions would arise on how scaringly good he would have been as a pro in his prime. Possibly the best ever if he SOMEHOW won this. Too much of an age and size disparity.
Yesssss! It's hard to bet against Loma because of the size advantage, but Rigo is no joke and I think he has enough power and more than enough speed to hang with the bigger man. What an amazing way to end an already great year.
