I agree, he will need to be fine tuned. He's four or five years older than the Donaire fight now, so of course he won't look as sharp. He doesn't have enough recent rounds to be able to tell much. He landed the best punch of one round against Flores and the best punch after the round ended. In the Dickens fight, Dickens used his legs to keep the distance a couple times when Rigs led and jumped in, but on another couple occasions Rigs jumped in and wobbled Dickens(last minute of the first), and broke his jaw in the second. I expect him to be right in front of Lomachenko, looking to counter, similar to how he was against Donaire much of the fight, and I wouldn't be surprised if he came forward using head movent to get off shots and pivot out. Marriaga's somewhat stiff and flat footed head movement was fairly effective in making Lomachenko miss repeatedly in their fight. Pedro Diaz probably caught that.

The power of Rig seems to have increased over the years. He was throwing that left with some bad intentions. It's not easy to break a mans jaw with boxing gloves on...The footwork is going to be something to watch. I'm really not sure how this will unfold...my instincts make me believe this will be a chess match that won't produce the kind of action all of us are hoping for. Most of the posters here don't seem to be giving Rig much of a shot.....even though I'm leaning towards Loma, I know Rig is a big threat. Can't wait to see this fight

Perfecting your punching style and technique can do that for you. Dickens' jaw broke in two different places. Donaire's eye socket cracked. He made Amagasa look like some type of ancient alien figurine.

I expect a tactical fight. If Lomachenko walks in reckless, playing around, and showboating without having first hurt Rigondeaux, he will pay a heavy price. Rigondeaux has to stay focused, no playing around, showboating etc. and if he hurts Lomachenko, he has to stay patient and measured. Rigondeaux is most vulnerable when he rushes in recklessly. Look for Lomachenko's face to start deteriorating if Rigondeaux starts landing frequently, or starts blasting hard shots into Lomachanko's guard. Donaire had a damn pumpkin face backstage after the Rigondeaux fight. Judging from the Marriaga fight, Rigondeaux won't even have to land many power shots before Loma's face starts to fall apart. I kind of think that Lomachenko should simply try to out point fight Rigondeaux, test Rigs legs out, using his more youthful legs to get in and out, similar to how he was boxing Russell Jr. I don't think getting inside on Rigs will be easy, and I also don't think his face can hold up to Rigs hard counters. I think Rigs might want to employ a little head movement to get inside and fire off combinations before pivoting out. Very intruiging fight, most intriguing fight of the year in my opinion. I think Loma may keep his right hand up, to try and take away the left, and make Rigs use his right. Many people forget that Rigs has power in both hands though. Just because he doesn't use his right much in fights, doesn't mean it's not there. Going with Rigondeaux. Deck is stacked against him, but him and Diaz wouldn't have asked for the fight at Loma's weight class if they didn't see something that they thought they could exploit.

Good post. I completely agree. Loma may have some physical advantages going into this fight with Rig, but nothing that can't be offset by Rig's skills. Loma will have to fight a disciplined fight....not in the sense that he has to change up his style, but in the sense of showboating or admiring work that is successful. Rig will need to be razor sharp on fight night if he wants to pull off the upset.

I see lomachenko completely shut out Rigo. Rigo is easy to touch. Don't make him out to be a defensive master. He has nice crispy left cross. Loma just have to watch out for those.
