Let's just stop and think about this for a minute! Manny had trouble with 2 outta 3 of these Mexican greats and 1 put him to sleep! Manny is considered one of the best ever at the lower weights and arguably the best of his generation. If Loma could beat those 3 great Mexican's in their prime and easily like some are saying here, he could be the greatest ever! I don't think he will become one of the 20 greatest ever let alone the best ever. He might not even be the best of his generation! He's damn good but, beating 3 greats with different styles would be a tremendous accomplishment. I say he loses to at least 1 if not 2. Some of you guys forget how good those guys were in their primes. Unbelievable!!!
I remember EL Terrible during that time very well, and you're absolutely right. He was the darling of HBO at the time, and as you said you could make a case for him being the best P4P fighter around that time (even higher than Jones Jr who I felt started to deteriorate a little bit by 2001/02.) All those wars that Morales engaged in during the early 2000's really cut his career short. As I mentioned before, Morales holds some significant physical advantages over Vasyl and Morales in his prime was a very versatile fighter. He had good technical ability and he could stand in the pocket and trade with anyone around his weight class. Out of the 3 Mexican greats, I'd imagine he has the best chance against Vasyl (although Barrera was no slouch himself.) Than I'd say Barrera, followed by Dinamita.
Think Barrera was just to good end of Story.....Barrera never let Naseem control the Fight at any stage....My opinion only I respect Yours.!!!!
Loma. Marquez wont befuddle him with feints and footwork like he does with Pac, nor will he take away his lead hand.
The Loma that lost to Salido would get banged up and likely hurt against a prime MAB, EM, and JMM. The Loma that just beat Walters would get decisioned by the same.
Naz was a low workrate fighter who left himself open. Always did. Barrera took advantage of that. He was absurdly skilled. I think Barrera is a more skilled fighter than Lomachenko.
If I wasn't such a fan of Loma, this kind of thing would help me root against him. He's a generational talent but we need to see him dominate various styles over a period of time before saying he could run through three of the greatest fighters ever. We can appreciate how good he is, and his potential for greatness, without saying he'd giev Ray Robinson problems.
3 great Mexican fighters. I think JMM would have trouble at first but slowly work Loma out. However, even after doing so he wouldn't be able to dominate. His counter punching would be dangerous as he has deceptive power but as long as Loma's chin holds he may win a close decision. I can't see JMM getting stopped. Morales' warrior mentality may cause him problems against Loma. He may get frustrated during the fight at his inability to land whilst getting tagged. If he boxed sensibly and let Loma initiate he would be able to time him and possibly hurt him. However I think he'd get frustrated and make mistakes trying to hurt Loma. This fight depends on Loma's chin and Morales' ability to stay with the game plan. If Morales can't hurt Loma or gets frustrated he will lose a decision. MAB will bring an ATG package but once again if he can't hurt Loma, he will be beaten. One of his great wins was against Hamed, which shows he can stick to a plan and take away Hamed's only weapon. Hamed, albeit spectacular, was one dimensional while Loma is definitely not. It's probably too early to pick Loma against these three, but I am doing it based on how quickly Loma has fought and beaten world class level pros as well as his amateur pedigree.
People say that Morales would struggle and look bad against lower level fighters. But outside of the first two Barrera fights he was never involved in controversial decisons. He always won and won comfortably. He was an exceptional fighter.
