Mike Tyson and Marciano both had short reaches for their height. Tyson's reach 1 inch less than his height, Marciano's 4 inches shorter than his height.
I have always seen Tyson's reach listed at 71", & while he was listed at a 1/2" taller, most believe he was more like-& some claim he admitted to being-5' 10 1/2". To get Marciano with even a 3 & 1/2" "ape factor" deficit you need to use the highest converntionally listed height, 5' 10" 1/2", vs. the inch lower wingspan, 67" (when often listed at 68" too). In reality I think he was not over 5' 9" 1/2, & do not know his true wingspan. But anyway there have been many excellent fighters who were what most people are, "squares", Leonardo's golden ratio. A few like Wepner have shorter arms than their height, but this is less obvious & impactful when you are tall for your time & division.
Duran, who won tiles all way up to MW only had a 168 reach... & he had wider shoulders! Kid chocolate, one of the greatest SFWs ever had a SHORTER reach than Loma too.. If reach was such a huge factor then why aren't Linares, Rigo or Walters beating him?. Footwork, stance, upper body movement, timing & sound ring IQ can negate reach, go watch 't rex' Carl Frampton or GRJ fights...
